The post holder will ensure that Production services are delivered in a safe, effective, economic, and timely manner, ensuring all procedures comply with current legislation and guidelines. The role includes undertaking preparations across all areas of the Production unit.
Main duties of the job
- Participate in all aspects of the day-to-day delivery of the production service, ensuring compliance with all current regulatory requirements.
- Undertake aseptic preparation of cytotoxics following Good Manufacturing Practice, Health and Safety at Work, and other relevant pharmaceutical guidelines.
- Manage and organise own work to ensure efficient workflow through the department.
- Follow the daily works rota within the production unit to ensure timely processing of work to meet user requirements and minimize patient wait times.
- Prepare documentation such as worksheets and labels for aseptic products, including correct batch numbers, expiry dates, and manufacturer details, using available computer systems.
- Complete all relevant In and Preprocess training logs promptly.
- Check completed aseptic dispensing documentation for accuracy and adherence to SOPs.
- Assemble trays of raw materials and consumables for aseptic processes according to worksheets and SOPs.

Job responsibilities
- Monitor daily operations of isolators, reporting discrepancies to the Chief Technician/QA lead.
- Participate in the specialist cleaning of clean rooms per SOPs.
- Conduct physical monitoring under the guidance of the QA lead.
- Report all out-of-specification results to senior staff.
- Maintain personal aseptic techniques for cytotoxic reconstitution, ensuring validations and SOPs are followed and competency maintained.
- Complete all relevant training activities as per the production training manual.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in all work areas.
- Ensure clean room clothing is properly stored after weekly delivery.
- Record monitoring data for clean rooms and isolators before and after sessions, reporting any out-of-spec results.
- Participate in environmental monitoring, ensuring microbial plates are labelled and sent for incubation timely.
- Clean equipment and ensure the sterile unit is left in a safe condition nightly.
- Carry out quarterly fridge cleans according to SOPs.
- Manage stock by daily checks of raw materials, recording discrepancies, and reporting to the Chief Technician.
- Report to senior technicians on stock needs for consumables, drugs, and raw materials.
- Ensure storage areas are secure.
- Provide workload figures for sterile and non-sterile activities monthly.
- Assist in non-sterile labelling and prepacking activities, maintaining cleanliness and segregation per SOP.
- Ensure computer transactions for stock are completed before dispatch.
- Monitor stock levels of resuscitation boxes, ensuring sufficient stock and proper expiry management.
- Assist in training staff and students, ensuring compliance with current legislation and guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to Health and Safety regulations and uphold Clinical Governance principles.
- Coordinate with QA and other departments to ensure smooth operations and compliance.
- Participate in meetings, contribute to process improvements, and support team development.

Person Specification
Application
- Four GCSEs A-C including English, Maths, Science
- NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services
- Knowledge of GMP and legal production requirements
- Computer literacy and basic keyboard skills
- Effective communication and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently, under pressure, and as part of a team
- Manual dexterity for sterile procedures
- Experience in hospital pharmacy production or similar (minimum 6 months)
- Understanding of risk management, COSHH, and health and safety regulations
- Flexibility for shift work, including late, weekend, and bank holiday duties
- Interest in staff development and self-improvement
