Job summary

March of Dimes Canada is seeking a Contract Community Support Leader for Meynell House Congregate Care Program in Toronto. The role is full-time (37.5 hours/week) with shifts including days, evenings and weekends, 6 months in duration.

The position involves 60-80% personal care assistance and 20-40% administrative tasks. Starting wage is CAD 24.18 per hour, with a CAD 3.00/hour government wage enhancement for hours spent directly supporting clients; training and paid leave are not included in

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working with people with physical disabilities.
  • Knowledge of transferring, lifting, and personal care tasks.
  • Valid driver’s license or reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership in delivering services to clients with disabilities.
  • Lead attendants in assisting with non-medical activities of daily living.
  • Assist in scheduling according to care plans.
  • Assist in renewal and management of client service contracts.
  • Provide orientation and on-the-job training to new attendants.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Assist in on-call/after-hours rotation.

This Opportunity

We are currently looking to fill a 6 months Contract Community Support Leader position at Meynell House Congregate Care Program.

  • Full time hours are 37.5 hours per week.
    The Community Support Lead will be required to work multiple shifts (i.e., workdays, evenings, weekends).
  • This position involves 60-80% assistance with personal care and 20-40% administrative tasks.
  • Starting wage is $24.18, this compensation is inclusive of a $3.00 per hour wage enhancement from the Ontario government for hours spent directly supporting clients. The wage enhancement does not apply to training and paid leave
Duties :
  • Provide leadership in the efficient and safe delivery of services to clients with disabilities.
  • Lead a group of attendants in providing assistance to consumers with the non-medical activities of daily living.
  • Assist the Service Manager in ensuring that schedules are developed according to the client’s care plan.
  • Assist in the renewal and management of client’s service contract.
  • Ensure the orientation, continuous goal setting, problem solving and service planning with clients.
  • Provide orientation and on the job training to all newly hired support service attendants and provide ongoing leadership and coaching to all attendants.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Display diplomacy with clients attendants, other service centers and agencies
  • Manage change in a constructive and positive fashion.
  • Service delivery resolution and handle conflict resolution
  • Participate in the On-Call/After Hours rotation.
Background / Qualifications:
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification
  • Experience working with people with physical disabilities, experience/knowledge/understanding of Independent Living or Consumer based care.
  • Knowledge of and abilities in transferring, lifting, bowel and bladder routines and
    other attendant care duties
  • Physical Demands Self Analysis Required upon hire
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible and regularly scheduled hours
  • Valid driver’s license and/or reliable transportation
