NorWest Co-op Community Health is seeking a community-minded Community Action and Engagement Programmer for a 12-month maternity leave term. The role is 1.0 EFT and reports to the Director, Community Food Centre, starting October 1, 2026 with an end date around October 1, 2027.

You will recruit and train volunteers, mentor peer advocates, and help plan programs and events. You’ll connect people with resources and promote food security and social justice in collaboration with partners.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in a related field is required.
  • 3 years of experience in program development and community outreach.
  • Experience supporting volunteers, students, and community members.
  • Knowledge of food security, poverty, and social justice.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteers and students.
  • Coordinate volunteer activities, training, and appreciation initiatives.

Department: Community Food Centre

Responsible to: Director, Community Food Centre

EFT: 1.0 (Full-time)

Union: CUPE

Hourly Rate: $26.85 - $30.982 (Rates are effective Sept 30, 2026)

Start Date: October 1, 2026

End Date: Approx. October 1, 2027 (with possibility of extension)

Anticipated Shift: Days, may require occasional evenings and weekends

Position Summary

NorWest Co-op Community Health is seeking a passionate and community-minded Community Action and Engagement Programmer to support programs and community engagement at the Community Food Centre (CFC). This role will work closely with volunteers, students, peer advocates, community members, and local partners to provide support, connect people with resources, and promote food security, social justice, and community leadership.

Education
  • Post-secondary degree in a related field is required
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered
Experience
  • 3 years of experience in program development, community outreach, and group facilitation
  • Experience working with and supporting volunteers, students, and community members
  • Experience working with diverse communities and people from different backgrounds
  • Experience building relationships with community organizations and service providers
  • Knowledge of community resources, food security, poverty, and social justice
  • Experience with social media and community promotion is an asset
  • Counselling experience is an asset
