FCC Construcción has been present in Canada for more than 25 years, involved in innovative subway infrastructure work, such as the Highway 407 stations and Northern Tunnels for the Toronto York Spadina Subway Line Expansion, as well as the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Fredericton Moncton Highway.
We are experiencing exponential growth in our presence in Canada. In 1998, it was awarded for the construction, operation, and maintenance project for the Fredericton-Moncton Highway. In 2011, it was awarded a section of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway extension, the first modern subway infrastructure project in the city. This project was completed in 2018.
FCC Construcción Canadá has won a new contract to deliver the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations section of the Ontario Line, together with the GO Rail Expansion-On Corridor Project and the Scarborough Subway Extension Stations, Rail and Systems Project reinforces FCC Construcción’s presence in the Canadian market.
Project Opportunity
We are looking for a Communications Coordinator to join our FCC Canada team assigned to the Pape Tunnel and Underground Stations Project.
This position is located in downtown Toronto, ON and requires a daily presence in the office and/or on the construction sites.
Job Summary
The Communications Coordinator will act as a point of contact between the Communications and Engagement team and the community working closely with the construction and lands and property teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with the community to address concerns, provide updates, and answer questions related to ongoing or upcoming projects.
- Cultivate positive, long-term relationships with stakeholders, building trust and rapport through clear, consistent, and respectful communication.
- Gather feedback from stakeholders and communicate insights back to the Communications and Engagement team to inform strategies and decision-making.
- Work closely with the Construction and Property and Lands teams to ensure alignment on engagement efforts and key messaging.
- Collaborate with the Property team to contact landowners and secure permission for site access, ensuring compliance with regulations and best practices.
- Assist the Property team with pre-condition surveys by coordinating with landowners and providing logistical support as needed.
- Collect, analyze, and report feedback from stakeholders to ensure concerns are addressed in a timely and effective manner.
- Compile and summarize community feedback, concerns, and suggestions to share with relevant internal teams.
- Work with the Communications team to assist in reporting back to the community on actions taken based on their feedback.
- Help promote company initiatives, projects, and community programs in a positive light through interactions with residents, businesses, and public officials.
- Represent the company at community meetings, public consultations, or other relevant events, providing information and fostering transparency.
- Provide updates to the community through various channels (e.g., newsletters, social media, or face-to-face interactions) as necessary.
- Act as a point of contact for resolving issues or concerns raised by the community.
- Collaborate with the Communications team and other departments to ensure any disputes or challenges are addressed promptly and professionally.
- Maintain a calm and empathetic demeanor when handling sensitive situations or complaints.
- Maintain accurate records of stakeholder interactions, feedback, and permissions granted by landowners.
- Assist in managing schedules for property access, pre-condition surveys, and other site visits in coordination with internal teams.
- Complete all reporting, documentation, and administrative tasks related to the engagement process.
Qualifications- Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build positive professional relationships with team members, stakeholders and members of the public.
- Ability to de-escalate issues in a calm, positive, and professional manner.
- A degree or professional designation is preferred (such as communication, environmental planning) although proven practical experience is essential
- 4+ years working in a similar role in the public or private sectors (working in the communications, consultation or customer service industry)
- 2+ years professional writing experience including: plain language, AODA, web-content, internal and external communications
- Strong analytical, planning, organizational, problem solving and time management skills
- A valid driver license and access to transportation
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and remotely if required.
