Job description

The pan-Canadian Pharmaceutical Alliance (pCPA) brings together provincial, territorial, and federal governments for the purpose of increasing and managing access to clinically relevant and cost-effective medicines. Through collective negotiations, the pCPA has realized overall savings (as of April 1, 2024) for governments of $3.72 billion annually for brand name drugs and $914 million annually for generic drugs totaling $4.63 billion annually. The pCPA offers a 100% remote (within Canada) work environment.

About the role

As a key member of the communications division, the communications specialist provides coordination services and content development support to meet the pCPA’s core business goals and priorities. Areas of support include corporate communications, translation, editing, and public affairs.

The person holding this position also plays a critical role in ensuring the pCPA lives up to its pan-Canadian nature by supporting internal and external partners in both official languages. Bilingual capability — both in terms of coordination skills and linguistic proficiency in French and English — enables the pCPA to support francophones from across the country in a greater and more meaningful way.

The communications specialist holds a post-secondary degree in communications, translation, journalism, public relations or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and more than two years’ experience. They have experience leading media monitoring, communications development, and engagement activities.

The ideal candidate has exceptional written and verbal communication skills in both English and French. Additionally, they have a strong passion for engagement and a commitment to building an effective and dynamic organizational culture.

Key responsibilities

Translation services

  • Coordinates translation requests.
  • Performs comparative editing (French-English) and ensures adequate localization.
  • Provides feedback to translation vendors to ensure consistency across the pCPA’s communications tools and content.
  • Develops, maintains, and manages glossaries and related internal guides and ensures translation vendors use the latest versions.

Communication services

  • Develops, maintains, and manages content, editorial calendars, and internal trackers.
  • Coordinates and executes communications plans for the division’s projects, services, and initiatives.
  • Leads or supports the development of internal and external communications materials such as e-bulletins and e-newsletters, news releases, fact sheets, web content, key messages, and social media posts.
  • Liaises with internal and external partners.
  • Schedules social media posts and monitors performance.
  • Leads or supports media monitoring and helps develop or procure social media assets.
  • Develops, maintains, and manages pCPA calendars for engagement and public speaking.
  • Liaises with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinates and executes engagement plans for the division’s projects, services, and initiatives.
  • Leads or supports the planning and execution of virtual and in-person events.

  • Accountable to the manager, Communications.

Qualifications

Education and experience

  • Post-secondary degree in communications, translation, journalism, public relations or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • More than two years of experience in coordinating and developing communications and engagement activities, or a combination of other relevant experience.

Skills and abilities

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English and French (mandatory).
  • Proficiency with Office 365 (including Teams, SharePoint, Word) (mandatory).
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and management software (asset).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud (including InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop) (asset).
  • Proficiency with email marketing and survey software (asset).
  • Experience working in the health sector, government, or regulatory membership-based organization (asset).
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian pharmaceutical industry and government processes (asset).
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement abilities committed to building an effective and dynamic organizational culture.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities; adaptable and exercises astute judgment.
  • Strong business and digital acumen.

Employment terms

  • Temporary job; 15-month contract to cover a parental leave.
  • The hiring salary range for this full-time temporary position is $70,600 - $83,000. This range reflects the salary for candidates with varying experience levels, job knowledge, and qualifications relevant to the position. Specific offers will be based on individual backgrounds and qualifications.
  • The pCPA provides employees with a comprehensive group benefits package from the first day of employment.
  • The ideal candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada and can work from any location within Canada.
