Position Description

The University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus invites applications for a fixed term part‑time College Lecturer, teaching in the Agriculture Associate Diploma Program. This appointment will begin in early January 2026 and will end in April 2026. The position is based at the Ridgetown Campus, in the municipality of Chatham‑Kent, 200 km southwest of the University’s main campus in Guelph.

Position Requirements
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field (agriculture, crop science, plant science, etc.) with three years of relevant working experience. Candidates with an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • A strong understanding of forage species, establishing, managing, harvesting and storing forages for optimal nutrition management in ruminant livestock.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to develop presentations for diploma students.
  • An ability to incorporate relevant, practical and applied experiences into teaching methods.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office and internet applications.
  • Demonstrated record of diplomacy, teamwork, and time management.
Preference Given to Candidates With
  • Experience teaching at the post‑secondary level with a commitment to student success.
  • Experience in the agricultural industry.
  • A related professional designation or industry‑recognized certification.

Reporting to the Associate Director of Academic Quality and Student Success, the College Lecturer will be responsible for teaching and delivering the course material, as well as the necessary preparation and grading of course materials and assessments. The College Lecturer will also provide student support in a timely fashion, answering student questions and inquiries regarding the course.

Assigned Course
DAGR*2200 Cereal and Forage Management (Forage Management – 50% of Course)

Best management practices of small grain cereals and forages are discussed. Topic areas include the latest information on the value of small grain cereals and forages in crop rotations, physiology of small grain and forage species, intensive cereal management, crop enterprise budgeting, tillage practices, crop diagnostics, crop scouting practices, variety and species selection, soil fertility management, planting dates, row widths, seed rates and pest management strategies.

There are three lecture hours and two lab hours per week. Three lab sections. Schedule:

Monday: 8‑9 am lecture, 1‑3 pm lab, 3‑5 pm lab
Wednesday: 8‑9 am lecture
Friday: 8‑9 am lecture, 3‑5 pm lab
