About the Job

The Civil/Structural Estimator reports to the Chief Estimator and prepares detailed, first-principles cost estimates for the civil and structural scope of major transit and infrastructure bids. This includes earthworks, utilities, foundations, retaining structures, bridges, guideways, stations, tunnels and underground works. The role builds estimates from quantities, productivity rates, crew compositions and equipment spreads rather than unit-rate benchmarking alone, and is a core member of the bid team from RFP release through submission.

What You Will Be Doing?
  • Review tender documents, including technical specifications, reference concept designs, geotechnical baseline reports and drawings, to define civil and structural scope
  • Perform or validate quantity take-offs for concrete, rebar, formwork, excavation, shoring, piling, structural steel and precast elements
  • Build bottom-up estimates using crew-based productivity, equipment rates, labour agreements and material pricing
  • Develop construction methodologies with the engineering and planning teams, e.g. cut-and-cover vs. mined, top-down vs. bottom-up station construction, elevated guideway erection methods
  • Solicit, level and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes with Technical Procurement
  • Work with design partners on design development, value engineering and constructability reviews
  • Identify cost risks and opportunities and feed into the bid risk register and contingency analysis
  • Support estimate reviews with senior management and consortium partners, defending assumptions and pricing
  • Maintain clear basis-of-estimate documentation and support handover to the project team after award
What We Are Looking For?

  • 7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction, ideally with transit, rail, tunnel or bridge projects over $500M

  • Experience with first-principles estimating software such as InEight, HCSS HeavyBid, CandyCCS or similar
  • Proficient with take-off tools (Bluebeam, CostX, OST) and advanced Excel
  • Familiarity with Ontario labour agreements and the local subcontractor market is a strong asset
  • P.Eng., EIT, C.E.T. or CIQS designation (PQS/CEC) is an asset
  • Willingness to travel on a needed basis (within Canada)
