Qualifications

  • University degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline.
  • P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) license or eligible.
  • 3–8 years of relevant civil engineering experience.
  • Strong experience in land development, site servicing, grading, and stormwater management design.
  • Knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, and reporting.
  • Experience with OTTHYMO, MIDUSS/MIDAS, or similar modelling software.
  • Understanding of municipal infrastructure design and Ontario standards.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and reports.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare civil designs and drawings for site plan approvals (servicing, grading, details).
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations for land development projects.
  • Design stormwater management systems and LID measures.
  • Complete municipal and site infrastructure designs (water, sanitary, roads).
  • Prepare reports including FSRs and Stormwater Management Reports.
  • Coordinate civil designs with other engineering disciplines.
  • Review designs for accuracy and compliance with standards.
  • Liaise with clients, municipalities, and regulatory authorities.
  • Support project lifecycle from concept to completion.
  • Assist in proposals, schedules, and cost estimates.

$85,000 - $110,000 per year

Position Overview

We are hiring a Civil Design Engineer to join a multidisciplinary engineering team in Elora, Ontario. The successful candidate will support the design and delivery of civil engineering and land development projects, with a particular focus on site servicing, grading, stormwater management, and site plan approvals.

This position is well suited to an engineer with consulting experience who can independently complete technical designs and calculations while collaborating with engineers, technologists, clients, municipalities, and regulatory authorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare civil engineering designs and technical drawings in support of site plan approvals, including site plans, site servicing, grading plans, details, and technical notes.
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and modelling for land development and infrastructure projects.
  • Design stormwater management systems, including Low Impact Development (LID) measures and erosion and sediment control systems.
  • Complete designs for municipal and site infrastructure, including water supply, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, roadways, grading, and site servicing systems.
  • Prepare engineering reports and supporting documentation, including Functional Servicing Reports (FSR), Stormwater Management Reports, calculations, and design briefs.
  • Use applicable stormwater modelling software, including MIDUSS/MIDAS, OTTHYMO, or similar modelling tools.
  • Coordinate civil designs with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Review designs and technical documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable engineering standards.
  • Liaise with clients, municipalities, conservation authorities, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders throughout the design and approval process.
  • Respond to municipal and regulatory review comments and revise designs as required to obtain approvals.
  • Conduct periodic site inspections, construction reviews, surveying, and contract administration activities.
  • Support projects throughout the lifecycle, from initial client meetings and concept development through detailed design, approvals, construction, and completion.
  • Assist with project planning, scheduling, budgeting, costing, and coordination of engineers, technologists, and designers.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate project documentation.
  • Assist in preparing technical proposals, project schedules, scopes of work, and cost estimates.
  • Participate in client meetings and technical presentations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve design processes, reduce turnaround times, and improve the overall quality and efficiency of engineering services.
  • Ensure designs comply with applicable municipal standards, Ontario Building Code requirements, environmental regulations, engineering standards, and other applicable legislation.
  • Support business development initiatives and help maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients.
Required Qualifications
  • University degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO), or eligible for licensing depending on experience.
  • 3-8 years of relevant civil engineering experience, preferably within an engineering consulting environment.
  • Strong experience in land development, site servicing, grading, and stormwater management design.
  • Strong understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, stormwater management, filtration, LIDs, erosion and sediment control, and associated reporting.
  • Experience with OTTHYMO, MIDUSS/MIDAS, or comparable stormwater modelling software.
  • Working knowledge of municipal infrastructure design, including water distribution, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, roadways, and site servicing.
  • Familiarity with applicable Ontario municipal design standards, building codes, regulations, and approval processes.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, reports, and technical documentation.
  • Strong technical writing and report preparation skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working on projects involving industrial, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, or commercial facilities is considered an asset.
  • Experience with construction inspection and contract administration.
  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering projects.
  • Familiarity with trenchless servicing/design methods is an asset.
  • Experience preparing proposals, budgets, schedules, and project cost estimates.
