Job summary

Jobtailor in Ontario seeks a senior civil engineer to lead design and delivery of infrastructure projects, guiding multidisciplinary teams and ensuring alignment with OPSS/OPSD and municipal requirements. You will review complex designs, manage budgets and schedules, mentor engineers, engage stakeholders, and drive quality through all project phases from concept to construction support.

Qualifications

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario in good standing.
  • Eligible to act as Engineer of Record (EOR) where required.
  • Minimum 20+ years of progressive civil engineering experience.
  • Minimum 10 years in a leadership or design management role.
  • Extensive experience delivering infrastructure projects within Ontario.
  • Experience managing globally distributed engineering teams is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Provincial Standards Specifications (OPSS) and Ontario Provincial Standard Drawings (OPSD).
  • Knowledge of Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process.
  • Knowledge of municipal servicing requirements.
  • Knowledge of road reconstruction and roadway design standards.
  • Knowledge of grading and drainage design.
  • Knowledge of general stormwater management requirements.
  • Knowledge of watermain and sanitary sewer design.
  • Knowledge of utility coordination requirements.
  • Knowledge of Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements.
  • Knowledge of Ontario Building Code and applicable provincial regulations.
  • Knowledge of municipal engineering standards from GTA and Ontario municipalities.

Responsibilities

  • Lead civil engineering design and delivery for complex infrastructure projects.
  • Provide technical direction and mentorship to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Review, approve, and coordinate civil engineering deliverables through all project phases.
  • Ensure adherence to project scope, budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Identify technical risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct detailed technical reviews of engineering designs, calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Serve as the senior reviewer for civil engineering submissions.
  • Verify compliance with client requirements, municipal standards, and industry best practices.
  • Establish and implement quality assurance and quality control processes.
  • Review and validate work completed by international engineering teams.
  • Manage and direct engineering deliverables produced by engineers and designers in other countries.
  • Communicate Ontario-specific design requirements and client expectations to remote teams.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary reviews across multiple offices and time zones.
  • Resolve technical issues arising from differences in codes, standards, and engineering practices.
  • Engage and coordinate with municipal staff, authorities, utility owners, regulatory agencies, transit authorities, clients, contractors, and construction teams.
  • Lead technical meetings and design workshops.
  • Manage stakeholder comments and approvals.
  • Present engineering solutions to clients and regulatory agencies.
  • Negotiate and resolve technical and permitting issues.
  • Lead civil engineering work packages from concept through detailed design and construction support.
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary interfaces.
  • Monitor schedules, budgets, deliverables, and project risks.
  • Support proposal development and business growth activities.
