Job summary

The Salvation Army in Kingston, Ontario is hiring a temporary full-time Christmas Support Worker to assist with processing and distributing toy and food donations. You will help with setup, registration, and data recording while supporting volunteers and donors during the holiday campaign.

This role requires a completed high school diploma, a valid Ontario G driver's license, and the ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Shifts include days, evenings, and weekends. Training provided.

Qualifications

• Completed High School or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of related experience in community-based programs would be an asset.
• Strong Microsoft Office skills and ability to use email and internet-based programs.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License and vehicle with insurance are required.
• Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs.
• Flexible shifts include days, evenings, weekends; access to transportation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Process, unload, document, and sort donations of toys and food for the Christmas program.
• Assist with setup and distribution center operations and volunteer coordination.
• Support pickup of donations from community donors.
• Record data clearly and accurately for reporting.

Job Description

Position Purpose summary: The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

Accountabilities:

• Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
• Assist with space set up, ensuring volunteers have necessary equipment and support during the registration and distribution process
• Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
• Assist with set up and take down of toy and Christmas hamper distribution centre.
• Assist with sorting toy donations.
• Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
• May assist in both Hamper and Toy Drive campaigns where needed.
• Attend special events throughout the campaign.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:

• This is a temporary, full-time position.
• Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday.
• Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
• Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
• Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
• Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
• Local travel may be associated with this position.

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:

• Completed High School or equivalent
• Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
• Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs.
• Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation:

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
