Job summary

The Salvation Army in Kingston is seeking a Christmas Toy Shop Worker to support the Community and Family Services during the holiday season. This temporary full-time role involves helping with toy distribution, supervising volunteers, and coordinating donations with a friendly, client-focused approach.

You will assist with recording data, manage telephone inquiries, and ensure toys are stocked and accessible while working within OH&S guidelines. Prior related experience is a plus.

Qualifications

• Completed High School or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of related experience in community-based programs.
• Able to lift/move up to 20 lbs (10 kg).
• Willing to undergo screening and background checks as required.

• Assist with setup, take-down and organization of toy distribution.
• Assist with scheduling and organization of volunteers.
• Provide supervision to volunteers in toy sorting area.
• Receive and process donations of toys for distribution and provide assistance with packing and sorting toy donations.
• Record statistical data clearly and accurately.
• Handle telephone calls from clients requiring assistance.
• Assist with registration as required.
• Ensure replenishment of toys in Toy Store.

Job Description

Position Purpose summary: The Christmas Toy Shop Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

Accountabilities

• Assist with the set-up, take-down and organization of toy distribution program.
• Assist with the scheduling and organization of volunteers.
• Provide supervision to volunteers in toy sorting area.
• Receive and process donations of toys for distribution and provide assistance with packing and sorting toy donations.
• Assist with recording statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
• Receive and process telephone calls from clients requiring assistance.
• Assist with setting up and clean-up of volunteer refreshment areas.
• Assist with registration as required.
• Ensure replenishing of toys in Toy Store.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

This is a temporary, full-time position. Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break. Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements. Working environment is typically in the office in generally agreeable conditions. Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (10 kg).

Education, Qualifications and Certifications

• Completed High School or equivalent.

Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements

• A minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.

• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
