Job summary

The Salvation Army in Canada is hiring a Christmas Support Worker to help operate the Christmas program in Kingston. This temporary full-time position supports Community and Family Services during the holiday season and requires ability to lift up to 20 lbs, weekend shifts, and flexible scheduling.

You will process donations, assist with distribution, support volunteers, and help track program data while representing The Salvation Army with integrity and care.

Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of prior related experience in community-based programs.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office and familiarity with email and internet-based programs.
• Must have a valid Ontario Class G driver's license, vehicle, insurance, and a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Responsibilities

• Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations for the Christmas program.
• Help with space setup and provide volunteers with necessary equipment and support during registration and distribution.
• Assist with pickup of food and toy donations using the program vehicle.
• Set up and take down of toy and Christmas hampers distribution centre.
• Record data accurately for reporting and statistics.

Job Description

Position Purpose summary:

The Christmas Support Worker provides support to the Community and Family Services during the Christmas season on a temporary basis.

Accountabilities

• Assist with processing, unloading, documenting, and sorting donations of toys and food for the Christmas program and assist with preparing donated items for distribution.
• Assist with space set up, ensuring volunteers have necessary equipment and support during the registration and distribution process
• Assist with pick-ups of food and toy donations from community donors using program vehicle.
• Assist with set up and take down of toy and Christmas hamper distribution centre.
• Assist with sorting toy donations.
• Record statistical data in a clear, organized, and accurate manner.
• May assist in both Hamper and Toy Drive campaigns where needed.
• Attend special events throughout the campaign.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions

• This is a temporary, full-time position.
• Shifts may include days, afternoons, evenings, weekend shifts, and split shifts, Monday through Saturday. Applicable shifts include a ½ hour unpaid meal break.
• Flexibility in scheduling is required, as the hours may increase as per operational requirements.
• Required to wear appropriate Salvation Army identification.
• Ability to lift/move up to 20 lbs. (11.34 kgs) in a safe manner.
• Local travel may be associated with this position.

Education, Qualifications And Certifications

• Completed High School or equivalent

Experience And Skilled Knowledge Requirements

• Minimum of one (1) year of prior related experience working in community-based programs would be a definite asset.
• Strong skills in all Microsoft Office products and good working knowledge and experience with email and internet-based programs
• Valid Ontario Class “G” Driver’s License, personal vehicle required and insurance, current copy of driver’s abstract for review and verification that is satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion, is required.

• Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.

Compensation

The target hiring range for this position is $17.60 to $21.84 with a maximum of $26.20. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
