Job summary

Developmental Disabilities Association (DDA) is seeking a Child & Youth Worker to enrich an afterschool and leisure program for youth with disabilities in Vancouver. You will design and deliver inclusive activities that foster learning and personal growth, while maintaining a safe, supportive environment.

The role offers flexible part-time hours (with heavier schedules during school breaks) and a starting wage around $26.43–$29.26 per hour under the current collective agreement.

Qualifications

• Certificate or minimum of 3 years in related studies toward a degree such as Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Child Care, Social Sciences, or Education.
• Minimum 1 year direct experience with youth in a recreational setting.
• Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
• Formal training in the area of counselling and behavior management.
• Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility and endurance for recreational activities.

SERVICE AREA: Early Learning & Youth Services
LOCATION: Leisure Challenge (Renfrew-Collingwood)
START DATE: September 01, 2026
TERM/STATUS: Permanent Part Time
SCHEDULE/HRS: Monday 13:00 - 18:00; Tuesday to Friday 14:00 - 18:00 // 21 hours per week - Part time during school days, Temporary Full time hours during school breaks (Winter, Summer and Spring) and professional development days.

HOURLY WAGE: $26.43 - $29.26 as per collective agreement (2024 rates, implementation of new collective agreement is in process and new wage rates $28.04 to $31.04 will be implemented once funding is received)

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

• Certificate or minimum of 3 years in related studies toward a degree such as Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Child Care, Social Sciences, or Education.
• Minimum 1 year direct experience with youth in a recreational setting.
• Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
• Formal training in the area of counselling and behavior management.
• Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility and endurance for recreational activities.

Standard requirements of the Child & Youth Worker include:

• Criminal Record Clearance
• Medical Clearance
• Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
• Class 5 Driver's License
• Able to obtain Class 4 unrestricted Driver's License
• Valid First Aid/CPR
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification - training will be provided
• Demonstrated competency in English written and verbal communication
• Basic computer literacy
• Eligible to work in Canada
