Job summary

Developmental Disabilities Association in Vancouver, BC, is seeking a Residential Care Worker for a temporary part-time position in one of our group homes. You will help residents with daily living, safety, and meaningful activities to promote their independence and well-being.

The role requires 1–2 years of related experience, a relevant degree or diploma, a Class 5 driver's license (Class 4 upgrade during probation preferred), a clear criminal record, and proficiency in English.

Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services, Human Services, or Education.
  • 1–2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or related equivalent experience.
  • Criminal Record Clearance and TB Test Clearance.
  • Class 5 Driver's License; willingness to obtain Class 4 Unrestricted during probation.
  • Ability to perform lifts and transfers up to 40 lbs.

  • Meet residents' physical, emotional, social, recreational, educational, and medical needs; enhance quality of life.

The Role:


Residential Care Worker (RCW) assists residents to live successfully in residential settings within the community. The position ensures the residents’ physical, emotional, social, recreational, economic, educational, and/or medical needs are met. The RCW assists residents by enhancing their quality of life through activities of daily living. The RCW works both independently and as part of a team, and demonstrates the ability to take initiative and effectively problem solve using sound judgment.

Requirements/Education/Experience:



  • Degree or Diploma in area directly related to supporting people with developmental disabilities such as Social Services, Human Services, or Education

  • 1-2 years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, or related equivalent experience

  • Experience with, or training in, areas of adaptive communication, and community care is an asset

  • Experience in supporting mental health and positive Behavioral Reinforcement preferred

  • Class 5 Driver's License

  • Willingness to obtain a Class 4 Unrestricted Driver's License during probation period

  • Satisfactory driver's abstract

  • Criminal Record Clearance

  • Must have training in positive behavior support

  • Medical Clearance (must be able to perform lifts and transfers of 40 lbs)

  • TB Test Clearance

  • Competency in English written and verbal communication

  • Eligible to work in Canada
