Job summary

Developmental Disabilities Association in Vancouver is seeking a Lead Child & Youth Worker to support an enriched school-age program at Brock Junction (General Brock Elementary). The role provides opportunities for learning and social-skill development for children, including those requiring extra support, with emphasis on inclusion and safety.

Part-time, permanent position from October 13, 2026, 12:00–18:00, Monday to Friday (30 hours/week).

Qualifications

• Certificate or minimum of 3 years in related studies toward a degree such as Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Child Care, Social Sciences, or Education.
• Minimum 1 year of direct experience with children in a school aged setting.
• Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
• Formal training in the area of counselling and behavior management.
• Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility and endurance for recreational activities.

SERVICE AREA: Early Learning & Youth Services
LOCATION:Brock Junction (General Brock Elementary)
START DATE:October 13, 2026
TERM/STATUS: Permanent Part Time
SCHEDULE/HRS:Monday to Friday 12:00-18:00 // 30 hours per week
Part time during school days, Temporary Full time hours during school breaks (Winter, Summer and Spring) and professional development days.
HOURLY WAGE:$30.22 - $33.54 as per collective agreement

THE ROLE:

The Lead Child & Youth Worker ensures the provision of an enriched school age program by providing opportunities for learning and social skill development for children; including participants requiring extra support.

REQUIREMENTS:

Education & Experience:

• Certificate or minimum of 3 years in related studies toward a degree such as Therapeutic Recreation, Leisure Studies, Child Care, Social Sciences, or Education.
• Minimum 1 year of direct experience with children in a school aged setting.
• Strong interpersonal and team building skills.
• Formal training in the area of counselling and behavior management.
• Requires physical strength, good balance, mobility and endurance for recreational activities.

Standard requirements of the Lead Child and Youth Worker include:

• Criminal Record Clearance
• Medical Clearance
• Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
• Class 5 Driver's License
• Able to obtain Class 4 unrestricted Driver's License
• Valid First Aid/CPR
• Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification - training will be provided
• Demonstrated competency in English written and verbal communication
• Basic computer literacy
• Eligible to work in Canada
