Job summary

National Bank of Canada seeks a Chief Solutions Architect for its Wealth Management team in Montreal. You will lead design and deployment of innovative solutions, mobilizing experts and driving governance to ensure high‑quality tech outcomes aligned with business strategy.

You’ll collaborate with brokerage and investment specialists, evaluate costs, stay ahead of trends, and contribute to SAFe planning while guiding teams toward successful production release.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7–10 years of relevant experience.
• Solutions Architect experience in financial services is required.
• Minimum 5 years in systems integration tech (APIs, microservices, ESBs, Kafka).
• Java and Kafka knowledge; Kubernetes is an asset.
• Experience with relational and NoSQL databases and security concepts.

Responsibilities

• Design solutions meeting functional and non-functional requirements aligned with strategy.
• Lead architecture reviews and support fellow architects.
• Promote governance and evolve the architecture practice.
• Evaluate costs of proposed solutions and stay informed on tech trends.
• Contribute to SAFe PI Planning and ensure delivery from development to production.

A career as a Chief Solutions Architect within the Wealth Management team at National Bank means acting as a specialist in the design and implementation of innovative solutions. Through your leadership, experience, and advanced expertise in technology and systems integration, you will have a direct impact on both the client experience and the profitability of the business sector. Your advanced knowledge of technology and solution architecture practices will enable you to support our brokerage and investment specialists in delivering innovative solutions.

• Mobilize various subject matter experts to design solutions that meet both functional and non-functional business requirements while aligning with the organization’s strategic objectives.
• Demonstrate authentic leadership and a servant leadership mindset.
• Participate in peer reviews and support fellow architects when they require assistance.
• Simplify and promote the architecture governance process among project teams.
• Contribute to the evolution and continuous improvement of the solution architecture practice.
• Evaluate implementation and maintenance costs of proposed solutions.
• Stay informed of technological trends and understand their impact on business processes and applications, communicating these impacts effectively to diverse audiences.
• Contribute to the preparation and execution of planning exercises (SAFe PI Planning).
• Ensure the successful delivery of activities under your responsibility, from development through production deployment, while maintaining high‑quality technology solutions.

You are part of a team of 20 colleagues in the wealth Management sector and report to a Senior Manager. You will work with specialists in various fields to design technological solutions that add high value to the organisation.

Prerequisites

• Bachelor's degree in a related field and 7 to 10 years of relevant experience.
• Experience as a Solutions Architect within the financial services industry.
• Minimum 5 years of experience with systems integration technologies, including APIs, microservices, ESBs, Kafka, and similar technologies.
• Experience with Java, Kafka, and Kubernetes is considered an asset.
• Experience with both relational and NoSQL databases (e.g., Sybase, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
• Knowledge of security concepts and standards, including SAML, OAuth, and OpenID.
• Experience with AWS cloud solutions (AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate certification is an asset).

Languages:

Reason to require this language: you will need to work closely with our colleagues outside Quebec.
