Chief Operations Officer, Mortgage Lending

A dynamic and entrepreneurial private mortgage lender providing alternative mortgage solutions in Ontario, is seeking an experienced Chief Operations Officer (COO) to join their executive leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the company by contributing to its strategic direction, growth strategy, and operational efficiency.

As COO, you will work closely with the CEO, CFO, and Head of Business Development to influence the company's trajectory, drive expansion initiatives, and ensure optimal internal operations across underwriting, funding, servicing, credit, and data analytics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership: Oversee daily operations, ensuring alignment with business objectives and maximizing efficiency and effectiveness across all functions.
  • Strategic Planning & Execution: Craft and implement operational strategies to enhance loan origination, underwriting, and servicing processes, while driving process optimization and scaling efforts.
  • Compliance & Risk Management: Ensure compliance with all regulatory and legal requirements within the Ontario and Canadian mortgage lending landscape, including FSRA regulations.
  • Technology & Innovation: Champion the adoption of new technologies and digital solutions to enhance customer experience and streamline internal operations.
  • Relationship Management: Build and strengthen relationships with brokers, investors, and lending partners to expand market reach and improve access to capital.
  • Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) and reporting systems to track business performance, identify areas for improvement, and drive data-driven decision-making.
  • Team Development: Lead and inspire high-performing teams, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and exceptional customer service.
  • Financial Planning: Collaborate with the CFO to oversee financial planning, budgeting, and capital management.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field; a minimum of 10 years of senior leadership experience in the mortgage lending or financial services industry; in-depth understanding of Ontario’s mortgage regulatory environment, including FSRA regulations and compliance requirements; proven track record of driving operational efficiencies and implementing scalable systems and processes, including data management and adoption of technology; experience in managing underwriting, credit policies, and risk management in a lending environment; strong leadership abilities, with excellent communication, stakeholder management, and team-building skills; demonstrated success in business growth, strategic execution, and leading operational transformation initiatives.
