School District 72 is looking for Casual Education Assistants to join our team at Cortes Island School. We aim to bring the district's learning beliefs to life.

Located on the east coast of Vancouver Island, the district extends north to Sayward and south to Oyster River, including the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. Serving over 5,600 students across 18 schools, the district offers diverse, progressive programs responsive to students' educational needs.

About The Role

Education Assistants work under the direction of School Administration, supported by the Department of Inclusive Education and classroom teachers. They collaborate in inclusive settings to support students in meeting their Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Responsibilities include modeling pro-social behaviors, ensuring safe learning environments, and providing academic support for students with various disabilities and challenges.

Specific Responsibilities

• Ensuring a safe learning environment and implementing behavior management techniques.
• Providing positive behavior support and communicating effectively to diffuse escalated behaviors.
• Offering academic support to students with special needs, individually or in small groups.
• Participating in IEP meetings and collaborating with teachers and specialists.
• Supporting classroom activities, overseeing student progress, and reinforcing social behaviors.
• Assisting with personal health routines, medication, and therapies as directed.
• Maintaining the safety and order of equipment and supplies.
• Participating in staff meetings and other duties as assigned.
• Transporting students and supervising in the pool or during outdoor activities.
• Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to policies.

Bring your Expertise

• Post-secondary diploma or relevant certification with experience.
• Knowledge of child abuse protocols, CPI certification, POPARD training, and First Aid are assets.
• Proficiency with technology and software, including Microsoft 365.
• Ability to build effective relationships and communicate tactfully.
• Flexibility, physical stamina, and coordination for the role.
