Job description

Position: Certified Education Assistant - Casual

There are positions available for Certified Education Assistants with School District No. 60. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the positions are filled.

Reporting to the site Administrative Officer(s), this position involves working under the direction of classroom teachers and district personnel to provide care for students (training provided by medical personnel when required).

This role requires collaboration within a team to support the delivery of educational programs and services, focusing on the integration, growth, learning, safety, and comfort of students with various educational, emotional, and behavioral needs. The successful candidate will work with students with special needs, including those with learning disabilities, on modified or alternate programs, primarily in a classroom setting, and may provide pull-out support for individuals or small groups.

Hours of Work:

On an as-needed basis

Duties to Commence:

As soon as possible after the closing date

Work Year:

Ten (10) months per year

Starting Salary:

$25.19 - $30.17 per hour, based on certification

Responsibilities:
  1. Support students in implementing educational programs as determined by teachers and the resource team, providing feedback on daily work completion.
  2. Construct or locate instructional materials, games, displays, and learning centers.
  3. Operate computers, audiovisual equipment, adaptive technology, and other devices.
  4. Supervise students during educational activities, observe and record academic and behavioral data to assist teachers.
  5. Handle copying, transcribing, typing, filing, and record-keeping tasks.
  6. Implement behavior management programs as directed by teachers or the resource team.
  7. Provide personal/health care and physical safety assistance to students.
  8. Attend team and parent meetings as required.
  9. Assist with programs requiring intensive behavior interventions.
  10. Supervise students in various settings including classrooms, gym, playground, loading/unloading buses, and during community field trips.
  11. Foster student independence and peer interactions.
  12. Work collaboratively as part of a team.
  13. Attend workshops as directed by Administrative Officers.
  14. Perform other related duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications and Attributes:
  • Grade 12 or equivalent
  • Willingness to maintain current CPI status
  • Level 1 First Aid Certificate may be required
  • Education Assistant Certificate with training in areas such as ASD, FASD, behavioral needs, developmental and sensory needs, personal care, technology-assisted programs, behavior support, learning challenges, and formal POPARD training
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult situations
  • Ability to develop positive relationships with students
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Physical ability to keep up with active children
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • WHMIS and safety training to be completed within probationary period
  • Strong interpersonal skills and team orientation
  • Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Check

Note: Proof of graduation or highest education level is required before starting work.
