Job description

EDUCATION ASSISTANTS

School District No. 42 (SD42) serves approximately 17,000 students in Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. With an annual budget of over $200M and more than 2,000 staff, the district offers K-12 educational services across 22 elementary schools, six secondary schools, and two alternative schools. It also provides various certificate programs and lifelong learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is seeking qualified candidates for casual (on-call) Education Assistant positions. The role involves supporting classroom teachers in creating inclusive environments tailored to student needs, which vary by school and are determined collaboratively by the Principal/Vice-Principal and the School Support Team. If you are available for casual work, able to travel within the district (from Pitt Meadows to Whonnock), and interested in steady shifts with opportunities for regular positions as you gain seniority, we encourage you to apply.

Minimum Qualifications:

1. Successful completion of Grade 12 and the Special Education Teaching Assistant program or equivalent, with experience working with individuals with special needs.
2. Knowledge of behavior management, conflict resolution, restraining techniques, and various learning strategies, with the ability to modify curriculum to meet individual needs.
3. Basic signing skills appropriate for hearing-impaired students (may be required).
4. Effective communication and teamwork skills, maintaining discretion and confidentiality with students, parents, and staff.
5. Flexibility, patience, stamina, emotional stability, and maturity to support students with diverse challenges.
6. Sufficient physical strength, health, and coordination to perform job duties.
7. Valid BC Driver’s license.

Rate of pay: $34.73 per hour + 12% in lieu of benefits
