Job summary

The Salvation Army Booth Centre Hamilton is seeking a Case Worker to assist people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. You will assess needs, develop a case management plan, make referrals, and support residents with practical services.

Permanent full-time position with 37.5 hours per week; shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. Emphasis on confidentiality, harm-reduction participation, and collaboration with supervisors and local services.

Qualifications

  • University/college diploma in Social Service or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with individuals facing homelessness and challenging behaviours.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and ethical handling of client information.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a caseload.
  • Conduct intake assessments and use VI SPDAT and Diversion tools.
  • Provide problem-solving/referral counseling to Shelter residents.
  • Coordinate referrals to community resources and other Salvation Army departments.
  • Create interview schedules to evaluate quality of life improvements for participants.
  • Assist front desk, respond to client issues and crises.
  • Be available in dining hall/kitchen during meal services.
  • Document activities and incidents accurately.
  • Contact emergency services when needed.
  • Participate in Harm Reduction program and related duties.
