Job summary

Sobeys Campbell Heights Retail Support Centre in Surrey, BC, is hiring a Team Lead Transportation to oversee trucking operations, drivers, and equipment. You will manage routing, scheduling, and dispatch to customers, ensuring compliance with provincial and federal standards and fostering a positive work environment.

You will report to the Transportation Manager and lead a team to maintain safe operations, monitor productivity, and drive continuous improvement in logistics performance.

Qualifications

• Minimum of High School diploma and 2 years of experience in a warehouse or transportation company or equivalent.
• Demonstrated successful experience leading warehouse or transportation employees.

Responsibilities

• Determines staff levels and scheduling in response to planning requirements.
• Monitors daily productivity and on-time service; reports variances.
• Schedules equipment maintenance per provincial requirements and ensures safe operation of transport vehicles.
• Recruits, trains, coaches, and provides feedback to drivers; investigates corrective actions as needed.
• Maintains health and safety compliance and ensures proper use of systems and tools.

Reporting directly to the Transportation Manager, the Transportation Team Lead is responsible for all aspects of the trucking operations; drivers and equipment, maintaining oversight of routing, scheduling and dispatch to customers. Adherence to applicable provincial and federal regulatory standards is strictly enforced. Actively contributes to a positive and productive working environment.

Here’s where you’ll have an impact:

• Determines the staff levels and scheduling reacting to any situation affecting planning
• Monitors and reports the daily productivity information and on time service.
• Explains any variances on productivity
• Schedules equipment maintenance within Provincial Legislated requirements and ensure the safe operation of all Transport vehicles
• Manages absenteeism and employees tardiness
• Recruits, trains, develops, motivates and coaches truck drivers, and provides regular feedback, including investigating and administering corrective actions as required
• Communicates any relevant information to the employees
• Demonstrates outstanding leadership, with a clear vision and consistent sense of direction and serves as a role model for employees
• Ensures that the Health and safety rules are being followed
• Ensures that system and tools are being used as instructed
• Reviews all Delivery Sheets and ELD
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment as per company requirements
• Other duties as required

Educational and Working Experience Required

• Minimum of High School diploma and 2 years of experience in a warehouse or transportation company, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Demonstrated successful experience leading warehouse or transportation employees

Working Conditions

• Retail Support Center
• Physical work including frequent bending, lifting, and reaching
• Occasionally lift over 88 lbs
• Two person lift required for weights exceeding 50 lbs
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time
• Exposure to elements (i.e. dust/dirt, chemicals, noise, etc.) with a moderate exposure to varying temperatures (i.e. freezer -25C, coolers 1 - 5C, etc.) about 25% of the time
• Alertness to other people and vehicles
• Various shifts including evenings and weekends
