Job summary

University College of the North is seeking a Cafeteria Cook in The Pas, Manitoba. You will prepare, cook and serve meals, assist the cafeteria supervisor and instructors, and work with students and staff in the cooking lab, kitchen and cafeteria.

You will also handle daily cash outs, maintain cleanliness, and perform related duties. The role emphasizes teamwork, safety, and a commitment to lifelong learning, with Indigenous recruitment preferences noted.

Duties

Reporting to the Cafeteria Supervisor, UCN is seeking a Cafeteria Cook. Duties include, but are not limited to: prep work, cooking and serving meals; assisting the cafeteria supervisor and program instructor; working with students and other staff in the cooking lab, kitchen, and cafeteria, daily cash out, clean up; and other related duties.

Required Qualifications

• Commercial Cooking Certificate and Food Handler’s/Food Safe Certificate; preference will be given to graduates of UCN’s Commercial Cooking Program
• Experience working in a commercial kitchen; a combination of related experience and education may be considered
• Knowledge of food service sanitation and standards, personal hygiene and safety
• Ability to work independently and within a team environment
• Effective communication skills
• Must be able to work quickly, accurately and able to deal with interruptions
• Commitment to life-long learning

Assets

• Experience working in customer service
• Experience operating a cash register/POS system and end of day cash outs
• Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous cultures

Conditions of Employment

• Candidates must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident of Canada

$46,664 to $54,511 per annum plus remoteness allowance if applicable
