Job summary

Sodexo Canada Ltd at STFX University in Antigonish, NS seeks a Cook for a full-time campus dining role. You will prepare meals, operate kitchen equipment, and ensure food safety in a high-volume environment.

Responsibilities include menu prep, inventory, training staff, and supporting residence dining and events. Red Seal or equivalent experience, HACCP training, and customer-service focus are preferred.

  • Receive, rotate, and store food following FIFO.
  • Follow all sanitation and safety regulations and complete cleaning duties.
  • Support events, catering, and residence dining.
  • Train and mentor new staff as needed.
  • Report equipment issues and food safety concerns promptly.
  • Adhere to university, department, and Sodexo policies.

  • Prepare and cook hot menu items according to recipes, production sheets, and food safety standards.

  • Follow all food safety, sanitation, and workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation throughout the shift.
  • Complete cleaning and sanitizing duties for equipment and kitchen areas.
  • Support special events, catering functions, and residence dining operations as required.
  • Work collaboratively with cooks, supervisors, and service staff to ensure timely meal service.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new employees when required.
  • Report equipment issues, food quality concerns, and safety hazards promptly.
  • Adhere to university, departmental, and company policies and procedures.

University-Specific Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals for students, staff, and guests in a high-volume dining environment.
  • Accommodate dietary restrictions, allergens, and special nutrition requirements.
  • Support residence dining meal periods, theme meals, and campus events.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate production records and temperature logs.
  • Contribute to a positive dining experience through professional and courteous service.

-Red Seal or equivalent experience

-Must have basic HACCP Food Safety training.

-Applicant MUST BE Customer Service Oriented. This is a Frontline Customer Service Position which will entail working alongside our Customers.

-Applicant must be willing to utilize meat slicers/ food processors

-Must be capable of working in a fast-paced environment, hot cooking environment.

-Ability to follow Chef’s instruction on setup and displays of food & beverage

-Applicant must be in good standing with a satisfactory attendance record
