Position Description

In the role of Business Development Representative – Commercial HVAC, your vast industry experience positions you as a seasoned professional in the area of crafting, identifying, and conducting sales within the commercial HVAC landscape.

Operating from a home-based office in Eastern Canada or the Ottawa area, you will direct the promotion, sales, and engineering design support of our client’s HVAC solutions for commercial use, closely working alongside their local Distribution Partner.

  • Collaborate with consulting engineers, developers, and contractors to endorse and aid in the design of commercial HVAC solutions, aiming to generate mechanical design specifications for their merchandise.
  • Nurture and establish lasting, valuable connections with consulting engineers, contractors, property owners, and developers to guarantee their endorsement of their products.
  • Partner with our client’s distributor and their staff to advance product line in the designated region.
  • Frequently convene with their distributor to evaluate the necessary support within the market.
  • Organize and present effective seminars focused on their products, their usage, choice, and design tools, all in a bid to illustrate the advantages of their systems, in collaboration with their distribution partner.
  • Serve as an engineering resource to support the sales channel, maintain existing accounts, and uncover future business opportunities through regular client meetings, guidance on system design, attending sales pitches, and other initiatives to enhance the volume of specified system designs in the region that utilize our client’s products.
  • Enhance market familiarity with their products and their industrial proficiency by effectively communicating the features and benefits of their products and services.
  • Provide the Head of Commercial Business with weekly client visit plans, customer meeting schedules, and subsequent action plans.
  • Regularly report on business intelligence, including but not limited to, market activities and trends, project pricing, sales pipeline status, and project and quotation status within the assigned territory.
  • Submit a range of sales status reports to the Head of Commercial Business as required, including updates on activity, deals, follow-ups, and progress towards objectives.
  • Secure and expand sales through professional interaction with current and prospective clients.
  • Understand and manage customer requirements – engage with clients to anticipate and satisfy their needs.
  • Report sales or service opportunities as well as any customer concerns or suggestions.
  • Identify and resolve customer issues, proposing actions to prevent such issues in the future.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to meet customer project requirements.
  • Respond to RFQ (request for quotes) and RFI (request for information) promptly and professionally.
  • Maintain a record of customer interactions and contact information as necessary.
  • Provide technical application support to the Sales Team as needed.
  • Participate in trade shows, conferences, and other marketing events.
  • Keep abreast of relevant client information, future plans, and payment performance, sharing any client data that may impact company decisions with the relevant departments as needed.

Experience

  • A minimum of 10 years in a sales engineer role with a focus on commercial applied / engineered HVAC products, with a solid understanding of mechanical HVAC system design. Familiarity with VRF technology is a plus.
  • Existing connections within the HVAC community in Ottawa and / or the Eastern Ontario region.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated capability to develop and assist consulting engineers with mechanical HVAC building design based on equipment supply.
  • A keen business development instinct, the ability to deliver persuasive training presentations about sales, product features, benefits, and system design are crucial for this role.
  • Excellent negotiation and persuasion skills, along with outstanding oral and written communication abilities.
  • Preferred standing member of PEO.
  • ASHRAE membership and LEED certification are beneficial.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering. A P.Eng designation in ON is preferred.
