Job description

Description:
The Business Development Associate will be based in either Edmonton or Calgary, reporting to the Business Development Team. This role serves as a strategic partner and catalyst for growth within Thompson Construction Group, focusing on client acquisition, stakeholder management, and cultivating sustainable relationships with external organizations and clients.

The successful candidate will contribute to expanding Thompson’s business development initiatives and diversifying its portfolio across Canada, with a particular emphasis on British Columbia and Ontario. Additionally, they will develop strategies to explore opportunities in other geographic regions and industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with executive management and operational teams to develop and execute a strategic business expansion plan.
  • Manage all aspects of business development, including sales strategy, forecasting, and cultivating new client relationships.
  • Represent and promote the Thompson brand to increase market awareness and presence.
  • Assess operational challenges related to competitiveness and emerging industry trends to ensure the company’s continued success.
  • Conduct research, feasibility studies, and business plan evaluations to enhance service offerings and identify new opportunities.
  • Lead sales and business development efforts aligned with the company’s strategic goals.
  • Expand Thompson’s presence in the Mining, Oil and Gas, and Infrastructure sectors by establishing strong relationships with key industry decision-makers.
  • Develop and strengthen partnerships with First Nations groups and other stakeholders.

Opportunities:

  • Directly impact revenue growth by fostering productive, profitable, and long-term business relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Broaden Thompson’s client base and market reach beyond its core projects in Northern Alberta.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years’ experience in sales/business development environment with marketing and/or proposal creation responsibility.
  • Strong understanding of the operational and market dynamics of companies in heavy civil construction, oil and gas facility construction, mining, and infrastructure development.
  • Demonstrated success in managing revenue budgets exceeding $175 million.
  • Experience with InDesign, Illustrator and Adobe software application.
  • Experience working with CRM tool, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Experience in Microsoft Dynamics is an asset.
  • Track record of developing and executing strategic plans to secure new clients and expand into new markets.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and adapt to a dynamic business environment.
