Job summary

The Canadian Bar Association (CBA) is seeking a Specialist, Board Governance to provide confidential governance support to the CEO, President, and National Board of Directors. This role handles confidential matters, coordinates meetings, prepares reports, and curates governance materials for ready access by the Board and Executive Team.

The ideal candidate will be highly professional, discreet, and able to multi-task under tight deadlines, collaborating with senior staff while working

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Min. 5 years' experience in governance, executive support, or senior administration.
  • Experience with national boards in public or not-for-profit sectors is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Act as conduit between CEO and Board on governance matters.
  • Provide administrative support to the CEO and coordinate bi-weekly executive meetings.
  • Support Board and Governance & Equity Committee with agendas, minutes, and materials.
  • Attend meetings and arrange logistics, minutes, and follow-up items.
  • Maintain Terms of Reference, policies, and governance documentation.
  • Develop and curate governance collections and manage retention conventions.
  • Respond to research requests and prepare background reading packages.
  • Coordinate annual budgets and Board expense processes.
  • Coordinate elections for Vice-President and Board/Committee members.
