Job summary

affirm in Canada is hiring a Staff Software Engineer, Backend (Online Storage) to lead the technical roadmap for our databases across multi-region deployments. You will set strategy for your team and collaborate with product, infra, and SRE to deliver scalable datastore components.

You bring 8+ years in backend design, strong Python or Kotlin skills, and deep knowledge of AWS, MySQL, Spark, and Kubernetes. You will mentor teammates, shape code quality, and own operations to keep services

Qualifications

• 8+ years of backend design, development and launch at scale.
• Experience with AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• 5+ years of database expertise in Relational/Distributed SQL.
• Strong communication and collaboration across teams.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for your team on a yearly horizon.
• Collaborate with product, infra and SRE across projects.
• Design and build scalable datastore components for relational and key-value stores.
• Develop control planes for management, migrations, DR, sharding and tuning.
• Drive cross-team collaboration to ensure sustainability and risk awareness.
• Own operational readiness with monitoring, playbooks, and on-call readiness.
