Job summary

Axelon Services Corporation in Montreal, QC, is seeking a senior Java developer for a 12-month contract in a hybrid role (3 days in office). You will contribute to design, development, and implementation of applications using modern Java tech, with a focus on usability and cloud adoption.

The role requires strong Java EE, REST, SOA, OO design, SQL, and experience with Spring/JUnit/BDD, Unix/Linux, and coordinating with offshore teams.

Responsibilities

• Involved in detailed technical design, development, and implementation of applications using emerging technology choices.
• Own the development of a new platform following established best practices and standards.
• Focus on usability, cloud adoption, and user experience.
• Engage with a wide user base globally to develop effective user interfaces for onboarding and regulatory platforms.
• Participate in all facets of software development, from requirement analysis to design and development.
• Contribute to the continuous improvement of agile development practices.

Requirements

• Strong technology background with advanced knowledge of Java and Java-based technology stack.
• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience with Java EE and core Java.
• Experience with web service development, REST, and Services Oriented Architecture.
• Expertise in Object-Oriented Design, design patterns, architecture, and application integration.
• Working knowledge of databases, including design and SQL proficiency.
• Strong experience with development and automated testing frameworks like Spring, JUnit, BDD, etc.
• Experience with Unix/Linux.
• Ability to coordinate with multiple internal and external groups, including offshore teams and vendors.
• Strong development skills with the ability to translate technical design into workable solutions.
• Familiarity with working in a large team.
• Willingness to learn new technologies to meet business requirements.
• Strong problem-solving skills, including system integration and infrastructure debugging.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with Web UI JS frameworks like AngularJS, ExtJS.
• Awareness or experience with Pega BPM tools or other Business Process Management tools.
• Experience with distributed caching and NoSQL databases like Marklogic.
• Big Data technology experience such as Hadoop, Apache Spark, Elastic Search.
• Experience with data management through vendor feeds.
