Job summary

Metrolinx, an agency of the Government of Ontario, is seeking a structural engineer for a temporary contract role to contribute to project technical requirements and assurance reviews. You will work in‑office with cross‑functional teams across multiple transit projects in the Greater Toronto Area.

The role emphasizes reviewing underground structures, ensuring compliance with standards, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams while visiting sites as needed. A P.Eng.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor0s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
  • Professional Engineer designation in Ontario (or eligible).
  • Minimum 3 years of structural engineering experience.
  • Experience with underground structures (stations, tunnels, shafts) is an asset.
  • Familiar with CSA, ACI, AASHTO, Eurocodes and related standards.
  • Experience in design review, assurance, or verification is an asset.
  • Strong communication and coordination with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must possess a valid G Driver's License in good standing.
  • Willingness to obtain required training/certification.

  • Review designs for compliance with codes and industry best practices.

  • Coordinate with project teams and participate in technical meetings.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to support assurance activities.
  • Conduct periodic site visits.
  • Support the development and improvement of Metrolinx standards.

What will I be doing?
  • Contribute to the development and review of project technical requirements.
  • Perform technical assurance reviews of structural-related technical submissions for transit infrastructure (e.g., underground stations, tunnels, shafts, ancillary structures) across all project stages.
  • Ensure compliance with structural engineering standards and review Project Agreement (PA) requirements.
  • Review designs for compliance with codes, standards, and engineering best practices
  • Verify alignment with safety, durability, serviceability, and maintainability requirements.
  • Coordinate with project teams
  • Participate in technical meetings to clarify design issues, provide engineering input, and facilitate the timely resolution of review comments.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to support assurance activities.
  • Conduct periodic site visits.
  • Support the development and improvement of Metrolinx standards and assessing and resolving conflicts through the development and implementation of the standards.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree is an asset.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Ontario (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in structural engineering; experience in transit or major infrastructure projects is preferred.
  • Experience with underground structures such as stations, tunnels, and shafts and ancillary structures is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and industry practices (e.g., CSA, ACI, AASHTO, Eurocodes, as applicable).
  • Experience in design review, assurance, or verification roles is an asset.
  • Familiarity with various project delivery models (e.g., Design-Bid-Build, Design-Build, Public-Private Partnerships [P3]).
  • Strong communication and coordination skills, with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work within tight timelines.
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain required training/certification
  • Must possess a valid “G” Driver’s License in good standing
  • Proficiency in MS Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
