Job summary

Robertson & Company Ltd. in Canada seeks an Associate Director, Capital Markets Operations to lead the OTC trade confirmation function across commodities, metals, energy, and emissions. You will ensure timely and accurate confirmations and robust post-trade controls.

You will build and mentor a multi-location team, drive efficiency and automation, and partner with Trading, Legal, Risk, and Technology to optimize workflows and risk management in a fast-moving, highly controlled environment.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience within Capital Markets, Global Markets, or similar trading operations.
  • Hands-on knowledge of OTC trade confirmations and end-to-end post-trade lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting commodities, metals, energy, or emissions products.
  • Familiar with ISDA documentation, SWIFT workflows, invoicing, reconciliations, and trade matching.
  • Proven people leadership experience with developing and coaching operations professionals.
  • Experience delivering process improvements and transformations in operations.
  • Experience contributing to technology, automation, or vendor change initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk and audit readiness.
  • Ability to manage complex escalations and communicate with senior stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the OTC trade confirmation function across commodities and related products.

  • Oversee post-trade activities including confirmations, invoicing, reconciliations, and complex items.
  • Serve as senior escalation point for operational issues with Front Office, Legal, Risk, and other functions.
  • Lead and develop a multi-location operations team with coaching and direction.
  • Assess processes and identify efficiency, scalability, automation, and risk-reduction opportunities.
  • Lead change from assessment through design, testing, implementation, and adoption.
  • Partner with Technology and vendors on system and workflow enhancements.
  • Maintain strong controls and readiness for audits and regulatory reviews.
  • Contribute operational expertise to new products and lifecycle changes.

The Client

Our client is a leading financial institution with a well-established Capital Markets business. They are seeking an experienced operations leader to join their Commodities business and oversee a specialized post-trade function supporting complex trading activity across multiple product areas.

What you will achieve in this role
  • Provide leadership and oversight for the OTC trade confirmation function supporting commodities and related products, including metals, energy, and emissions.
  • Ensure trades are accurately confirmed and agreed with counterparties while maintaining strong standards around timeliness, accuracy, and exception management.
  • Oversee broader post-trade activities including confirmation workflows, invoicing, reconciliations, and the resolution of outstanding or complex items.
  • Serve as a senior escalation point for operational issues, working closely with Trading, Legal, Risk, Credit, Technology, Settlements, and external counterparties.
  • Lead and develop a team of operations professionals across multiple locations, providing coaching, direction, and support on complex matters.
  • Assess existing processes and identify opportunities to improve how the function operates, with a focus on efficiency, scalability, automation, and risk reduction.
  • Lead operational change from initial assessment through solution design, testing, implementation, and ongoing adoption.
  • Partner with Technology and third-party vendors on enhancements to systems, workflows, and electronic confirmation processes.
  • Maintain a strong control environment and ensure the function remains prepared for internal reviews, audits, regulatory requirements, and evolving operational risks.
  • Contribute operational expertise to new products, business initiatives, and changes affecting the trade lifecycle
What you must bring to this role
  • Significant experience within Capital Markets, Global Markets, or a comparable trading operations environment.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of OTC trade confirmations and the end-to-end post-trade lifecycle.
  • Experience supporting commodities, metals, energy, emissions, derivatives, or other relevant traded products.
  • Working knowledge of industry documentation and operational processes such as ISDA agreements, SWIFT workflows, invoicing, reconciliations, trade matching, and exception resolution.
  • Proven people leadership experience with responsibility for developing, coaching, and managing operations professionals.
  • Demonstrated experience improving or transforming operational processes, including the ability to evaluate a current-state process and successfully deliver a future-state solution.
  • Experience contributing to significant technology, automation, vendor, or operational change initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of operational risk, controls, governance, and the importance of maintaining an audit-ready environment.
  • Ability to manage complex escalations and communicate confidently with senior stakeholders across Front Office and corporate functions.
  • Strong judgment, adaptability, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving and highly controlled environment.
  • Experience with electronic trade confirmation or matching platforms would be considered an asset.
