Middle Office Business Analyst

Location: Toronto, ON - Hybrid

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Post-Trade & Middle Office Business Analyst to support operational, technology, and process improvement initiatives within a sophisticated investment management environment. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong business analysis expertise with hands‑on knowledge of trade lifecycle management, post-trade operations, settlement workflows, and capital markets infrastructure.

About You

You are naturally curious about how financial markets operate behind the scenes and enjoy solving complex operational challenges through technology and process optimization. You have a strong understanding of post-trade workflows and appreciate the critical role that confirmations, affirmations, clearing, settlement, reconciliations, and exception management play in maintaining efficient capital markets operations.

You are comfortable engaging with operations teams, custodians, counterparties, and technology stakeholders. You ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and can translate operational requirements into actionable business and technical solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments and are known for your attention to detail, analytical mindset, and ability to navigate complex trade lifecycle processes.

As a Strategio Middle Office Business Analyst you will:

• Partner with middle office, operations, settlements, compliance, and technology stakeholders to gather and document business requirements.
• Analyze and map post-trade workflows including confirmations, affirmations, allocations, clearing, settlement, and reconciliations.
• Facilitate workshops, discovery sessions, and stakeholder meetings to identify operational challenges and solution opportunities.
• Translate business needs into functional requirements, user stories, process flows, and detailed documentation.
• Support initiatives involving investment operations platforms, settlement systems, and post-trade technology enhancements.
• Collaborate with development and technology teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure solutions meet operational objectives.
• Investigate trade lifecycle processes and identify opportunities for automation, efficiency improvements, and operational risk reduction.
• Support testing activities including test planning, user acceptance testing, defect management, and production validation.
• Analyze trade exceptions, settlement failures, and operational breaks to identify root causes and recommend improvements.
• Evaluate impacts across middle office, operations, compliance, finance, and technology teams when implementing new solutions.
• Contribute to operational transformation initiatives and continuous process improvement efforts.

Core Skills

• 3+ years of experience as a Business Analyst, Operations Analyst, Middle Office Analyst, Domain Analyst, or related role.
• Strong understanding of Capital Markets, Asset Management, Investment Management, or Financial Services environments.
• Deep knowledge of post-trade operations and the complete trade lifecycle.
• Experience supporting middle office, settlements, reconciliations, or investment operations teams.
• Strong understanding of confirmations, affirmations, clearing, settlement, and exception management processes.
• Experience investigating trade breaks, settlement failures, and operational exceptions.
• Knowledge of DvP (Delivery versus Payment) and FoP (Free of Payment) settlement models.
• Familiarity with DTCC, CTM, MarkitWire, or similar post-trade infrastructure platforms.
• Experience gathering, documenting, and managing business and functional requirements.
• Strong process mapping, workflow analysis, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience supporting Agile delivery methodologies.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience working across operations, business, and technology teams.
• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related discipline.

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience with SWIFT messaging and settlement instructions.
• Exposure to custody, prime brokerage, or securities lending operations.
• Knowledge of corporate actions processing.
• Experience with Charles River, Aladdin, SimCorp, ThinkFolio, or similar investment platforms.
• Understanding of T+1 settlement requirements and operational impacts.
• Progress toward CFA, CBAP, PMP, or similar professional certifications.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled analysis and productivity tools.
