Job summary

CFMWS – Canadian Forces Morale and Welfare Services is seeking an Assistant Mess Manager to plan and oversee mess operations, enforce safety and liquor policies, and manage staffing for events and dining rooms. The role requires a college diploma in hospitality or related field and Provincial Responsible Service of Alcohol certification (Smart Serve).

Responsibilities include supervising function staff, managing seating, menus, beverage needs, and ensuring compliance with DND, CF, and Unit

Qualifications

  • College diploma or certificate in hospitality, food service management, or a related field AND some years of experience in hospitality, food and beverage service sector.
  • Provincial Responsible Service of Alcohol certification (Smart Serve) as required.
  • Experience coordinating hospitality services, applying policies, organising banquets and functions, inventory and bar management, personnel administration, and using basic software.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate operations of all mess activities and facilities.
  • Enforce health, hygiene, safety, and security standards and programs.
  • Ensure compliance with liquor legislation and unit policies for responsible serving of alcohol.
  • Evaluate and determine staff requirements for functions and oversee table settings, seating plans, special menus, and beverages.

THE ROLE

As the Assistant Mess Manager, under the direction of the Mess Manager, you will plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate the operations of all mess activities and facilities. You will enforce the health, hygiene, safety, and security standards and programs, ensure strict enforcement of provincial liquor legislation and DND, CF, and Unit policies concerning the responsible serving of alcohol, employee drinking restrictions, and customer behavior. You will also evaluate and recommend staff requirements for functions and oversee the protocol, table settings and arrangements, seating plans, special menus, and beverage requirements for the dining room.

QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED

Education, Certifications and Licenses

College diploma or certificate in hospitality, food service management, or a related field AND some years of experience in hospitality, food and beverage service sector.

And

Provincial Responsible Service of Alcohol certification (Smart Serve), as required.

Experience
