OpenRoad Auto Group Limited is seeking an Assistant HR Manager to lead HR functions across BC and Ontario, guiding managers and HR personnel in a fast-growing automotive retail group. This role emphasizes compliance, training, and employee relations, with a strong focus on development and internal promotion.

The position requires a post-secondary HR degree, 5+ years in HR, and 2+ years of leadership experience, with knowledge of employment laws and privacy.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree in Human Resources Management.
  • Minimum 5 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership/management experience.
  • Good understanding of employment laws and practices.
  • Good understanding of information security, privacy, and compliance concepts.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; tactful, articulate, and high use of discretion.
  • Strong presentation and facilitation skills with groups.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and work with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Service-oriented, with the ability to build strong working relationships with multiple stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Advise and oversee the daily functions and decisions of HR personnel.
  • Provide recommendations and guidance to Managers on HR-related matters.
  • Support all HR functions across BC and Ontario locations.
  • Deliver ongoing training and leadership support to HR personnel.
  • Support, coach, and advise Management on Associate matters, including disciplinary action, employee relations, performance management, engagement, health and safety, recruitment, disability management, and communication.
  • Lead employee relations matters, workplace investigations, and personnel concerns in collaboration with relevant departments.
  • Ensure compliance with local legislation and lead the implementation of new legal or regulatory requirements.
  • Review and update HR policies and procedures, and oversee their roll-out and ongoing compliance.
  • Oversee and manage HR projects — including training, recruitment, employee engagement, and recognition programs — from initiation through completion, ensuring timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder communication are managed effectively.
  • Develop and implement training initiatives aligned with HR and company goals.
  • Guide the HR Department in developing and monitoring HR metrics, reporting areas of concern and opportunity to leadership.
  • Communicate through internal channels to Managers and Associates, including dealership overview reports and quarterly updates.
  • Follow all Company safety policies and practices; immediately report any accidents to a Manager/Supervisor.
  • Perform other duties and administrative tasks as assigned by Management.
