Department of Infrastructure (INF)

The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high-quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), including planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation, and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and buildings, works, and equipment needed for GNWT programs and services. INF supplies essential petroleum products where private sector provision is unavailable, promotes energy-efficient technologies, and regulates electrical and mechanical safety services, licensing individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

Position Overview

The Assistant Facility Planner reports to the Manager, Facility Planning Services, within the Facilities and Properties Division of Asset Management, located at INF Headquarters in Yellowknife. This role requires applying design and programming knowledge to assist Facility Planners in providing facility planning and design advice to INF regional Project Management staff. The Facility Planning team supports planning through reports, feasibility studies, and project briefs to define the character, size, and location of northern buildings, ensuring facilities meet operational needs, reflect cultural values, and are cost-effective over their lifecycle. Infrastructure solutions are aligned with GNWT's goals, priorities, and vision.

Qualifications

Typically, candidates should have:

1. An undergraduate degree or diploma in Architecture, Engineering, or Interior Design with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
2. Preferably, 2 years of experience in cold/remote locations.

Equivalencies include:

• A Certificate in Architecture, Engineering, or Interior Design with 5 years of experience.
• A high school diploma with 6 years of experience in the same fields.
