Job summary

Coast Mountain College (CMTN) invites applications for an Assets Coordinator at the Terrace campus. This full-time role reports to the AVP, Corporate Services and involves coordinating fleet operations, preventative and corrective maintenance on vehicles and equipment, and ensuring safe, compliant operations across campuses.

The position requires Red Seal or equivalent certification, OFA 2, and a valid Class 1 license, with competitive BCGEU Level 15 pay and a comprehensive benefits plan.

Qualifications

  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or Automotive Service Technician certification.
  • OFA Level 2 certification.
  • Class 1 Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate fleet operations and schedule maintenance for vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and small engines.
  • Maintain fleet and asset records and support regulatory compliance.
  • Obtain quotes, prepare specs, engage suppliers, and verify work.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (WorkSafeBC, CVSE, ICBC, etc.).
  • Operate transport trucks, forklifts, and other equipment as needed.
  • Support health and safety initiatives and back up First Aid when required.

Job description and duties

Coast Mountain College (CMTN), Terrace campus, invites applications for a full-time regular Assets Coordinator commencing September 28, 2026.Evening and weekend work may be required as necessary.Salary will be in accordance with the BCGEU Support Staff salary scale, Level 15: $2,963.10 bi-weekly plus a comprehensive benefits plan.

Duties: Reporting to the AVP, Corporate Services, the Asset Coordinator is responsible for coordinating fleet operations and performing or arranging preventative and corrective maintenance on a diverse inventory of vehicles, heavy equipment, trailers, and small engine equipment. This hands-on role combines mechanical expertise, fleet management, contractor coordination, regulatory compliance, and asset planning to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations across College campuses and community program locations.

An illustrative sample of key responsibilities include:

  • Support fleet operations by scheduling and maintaining vehicles and equipment, prioritizing maintenance activities, administering vehicle bookings and fuel programs, monitoring driver eligibility, and tracking fleet utilization to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Maintain fleet and asset records, support regulatory compliance, oversee asset lifecycle activities including replacement and disposal, and provide input for fleet and equipment capital planning.
  • Obtain quotes, prepare specifications, engage suppliers and contractors, verify completed work, and process required documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, and safety standards, including WorkSafeBC, Transport Canada, Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement (CVSE), ICBC, and Technical Safety BC requirements.
  • Operate transport trucks, forklifts, and other equipment to transport materials, equipment, and program trailers.
  • Participate in occupational health and safety initiatives and serve as a backup First Aid Attendant when required.
Qualifications
  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or Automotive Service Technician certification, OFA Level 2, and a valid Class 1 Driver's License.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, commercial vehicles, trailers, and small engines.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting, diagnostic, and repair skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety, transportation, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with fleet management systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate records.
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Collaborative team player committed to safety and service excellence.
  • Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and lift 40 lbs. (18 kg) or more.
