Job summary

A regional municipality is seeking a Fleet Equipment Technician responsible for preventative maintenance and repairs of public works equipment. Candidates should have Grade 12 or equivalent, relevant education, and two years of experience in service and minor maintenance tasks. Job description

Overview

The District of Saanich is seeking Fleet Equipment Technicians who will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, repair, and daily running of all Public Works small tools and equipment. They will also assist Fleet Operations Centre as required.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain the equipment tool crib areas, track and purchase inventory of repair/replacement parts.
  • Schedule and perform major overhauls; perform minor repairs and welding services.
  • Support the Fleet Operations Centre as needed.
Requirements
  • Grade 12 or equivalent; one year of post-secondary education related to equipment and maintenance;
  • Two years of experience performing vehicle or equipment service and minor maintenance tasks in a shop environment;
  • Knowledge of servicing and maintaining equipment; knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, WHMIS, and the Motor Vehicle Act;
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's licence;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Assets
  • Valid Class 3 BC Driver's licence with air brake endorsement and/or heavy trailer endorsement;
  • Fork lift certification;
  • Experience in Fleet/Public Works shop; welding experience or training.
Schedule

The successful candidates will work Monday to Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm or 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week).

Compensation and Benefits

This is a CUPÉ Local 2011 position with a wage of $38.84 per hour (2024 rate) plus an excellent benefits package. Base pay range CA$38.84/hr. See competition details at www.saanich.ca. Please apply by 11:45 p.m. on January 18, 2026, quoting competition 25312.
