Job summary

Finning in Cranbrook is hiring a Journeyperson Welder to maintain and repair Caterpillar equipment. The role includes component rebuilds, some manufacturing, and routine maintenance in a unionized, fast-growing shop environment.

This position requires a Second year Apprentice Welder and strong welding aptitude with SMAW/FCAW tests. Overtime, training, and comprehensive benefits are provided.

Qualifications

• Safety conscious team player with excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills with a high attention to detail.
• Strong welding aptitude: vertical, flat, and overhead test for SMAW and FCAW; machining experience is beneficial.
• Repair welding would be considered an asset.
• Strong line boring experience will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair Caterpillar Construction Equipment, Mining Equipment and Expanded Mining Equipment.
• Component rebuild and repair.
• Some Manufacturing.
• Perform routine maintenance work.
• Occasional work at heights and confined spaces.
• Frequent bending, squatting, climbing, and lifting/pushing of up to 45 pounds without assistance.
• Complete technical documentation (service reports, warranty, crossover notes).
• Interact with customers, sales support, and the rest of the Finning team.
• Work with the Service Supervisor and Leadhand on various tasks as required.

Important Details

• This position is based in our Cranbrook branch on a 4x3 shift with potential to switch to a 7x7 shift
• A condition of employment is the ability to be fit tested and the ability to wear a respirator
• Field work may be required
