Job Summary

The Analyst, Customs Brokerage is responsible for preparing custom documentation and ensuring that CN shipments meet all applicable laws to facilitate the import and export of goods. The incumbent needs to analyze the commodities on the documents and must ensure to have the required intel to support the release. If this information is missing the incumbent must request it from the clients while educating them. The incumbent determines and tracks duties and taxes payable and processes payments on behalf of clients. The role signs documents under a power of attorney. The position represents clients with customs officials and applies for duty refunds and tariff re-classifications. The incumbent coordinates transportation and storage of imported goods and manages a shift independently without supervision.

Main Responsibilities
  • Custom Release Across Management: Perform multimodal custom releases across Canada for both external customers and CN Rail and its subsidiaries
  • Transmit custom release processes, refunds, drawbacks, and North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA)
  • Perform Electronic Data Interchange EDI with Other Government Departments (OGD) releases, through Automated Cargo Release and Operations Service Systems (ACROSS) and Customs Automated Date Exchange (CADEX)
  • Track and Review: Transmit clearance to Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), and Health Canada
  • Review NAFTA certificates and maintain import permits and receivables
  • Track and trace imports, steamship release and delivery instructions
  • Important Request: Request import documentation from clients and advise on import requirements for products
Working Conditions

The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Wednesday to Sunday. The incumbent must be available to work night shifts and holidays when necessary.

Requirements
  • Experience: Between 3 to 5 years of customs experience
  • Education/Certification/Designation: CCS Designation - preferred; LCB Designation - preferred; Bachelors
  • Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset
