Overview

As a member of the military, Air Operations Support Technicians (AOS Tech) provide air maintenance support primarily in aircraft servicing and handling, general maintenance tasks, maintenance programs and projects, employment and training, supply and tool procurement/management, quality management, technical publication management, and maintenance records management. They perform pre and post flight inspections, aircraft handling tasks such as parking, towing, marshalling, starting, refueling, and cleaning of aircraft. In the Reg Force, they may also perform airfield and base security duties, including site and aircraft security, guard, and access control duties.

Work Environment

AOS Techs are primarily employed at air bases within Canada, including the Arctic, and overseas, supporting NATO and UN commitments. Duties may include working on aircraft, in maintenance hangars, shop environments, on the flight line, and in deployed field conditions, often in environmental clothing and equipment.

Entry Requirements
  • No previous work experience or career-related skills are required.
  • The minimum education requirement is the completion of Grade 10 or Secondary 4 in Quebec; foreign education may be accepted.
Training

The initial training is the Basic Military Qualification course at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, which covers core skills and knowledge for all trades and emphasizes physical fitness.

Part-Time Options

Reserve Force members support Search and Rescue, airfield and base security, transport, and general duties. They typically train one evening per week and some weekends, working from their home unit, with pay at 92.8% of Regular Force rates and benefits.
