We are hiring an Associate Support Engineer to support customers leveraging Ubuntu and open source products. This role offers hands-on experience with Linux, cloud environments, and open source technologies, working with some of the best in the industry at Canonical.

The role involves solving technical problems, triaging complex environments, and providing expert-level support across cloud, desktop, and IoT platforms. You will own your cases from start to resolution and collaborate with colleagues when needed. This is a remote, globally distributed role.

Location:

This is a globally remote role.

The role entails:
  1. Providing technical support from your home office.
  2. Handling new cases via phone, email, and web.
  3. Communicating effectively with internal customers.
  4. Meeting SLA commitments and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  5. Contributing to and maintaining knowledge base articles.
  6. Drafting technical notices for communication.
  7. Prioritizing tasks effectively.
  8. Continuously learning about our evolving products and services.
  9. Understanding Ubuntu development timelines to set accurate customer expectations.
  10. Maintaining regular communication with the team.
  11. Identifying opportunities to improve service quality.
  12. Participating in a weekend rotation schedule.
What we are looking for in you:
  • Strong academic record from high school and university.
  • Degree in a technical field or relevant experience.
  • Confidence in communicating ideas and feedback.
  • Proven ability to exceed expectations.
  • Experience with Linux troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge or experience in at least two of the following:
    • Linux server administration
    • Programming fundamentals (bash, Perl, Ruby, etc.)
    • Networking concepts
    • Virtualization/cloud computing
  • Quick learner, adaptable, and able to handle customer-facing pressure.
  • Excellent English communication skills.
  • Appreciation for diversity and multicultural work environment.
  • Result-driven with a strong commitment to responsibilities.
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year.

Note: A background check will be performed.

Nice-to-have skills:
  • Experience with virtualized environments (KVM, VMWare, etc.).
  • Experience with open-source desktop technologies.
  • Active contributions to open-source projects.
