Job summary

Swissport International AG is seeking an experienced GSE Mechanic to maintain and service Ground Service Equipment at their Ottawa station. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose issues, and repair powertrain, hydraulics, and electrical systems to ensure safe operations.

Applicants should have 1–3 years in GSE maintenance, a valid license, and a Heavy Duty/Automotive mechanic certification, with willingness to travel for training or to assist other stations as needed.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years of experience in GSE Maintenance.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to obtain YOW D/A license.
  • Certification in Heavy Duty/Commercial or Automotive mechanic license.
  • Proficient in diesel engine diagnosis and repair, basic welding, and hydraulic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on all ground support equipment per schedule.
  • Respond to on-call maintenance requests after hours as needed.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot GSE, ensuring safe, reliable operation.
  • Repair and overhaul powertrain, drivetrain, brakes, hydraulics, and electrics.
  • Prepare and paint GSE to Swissport standards.
  • Operate and drive all types of equipment, motorized and nonmotorized.
  • Maintain maintenance records per regulatory and Swissport requirements.

Job description

Job Summary

Mechanic GSE Maintenance services and maintains all Ground Service Equipment at this Swissport station, keeping them in good order. They keep Swissport Ramp and other service agencies equipped with safe, reliable equipment that complies with all local and governing laws.

Your activities
  • Perform and show competence in preventive maintenance per established schedules on all ground support equipment
  • Respond to requests for on-call maintenance after hours on all ground support equipment if GSE Manager deems necessary
  • Provide troubleshooting and diagnostic assessment of ground support equipment as required
  • Modify and overhaul power plant, drivetrain, brake, electric and hydraulic systems
  • Prepare and paint ground support equipment to Swissport standards as required
  • Operate and drive all types of equipment – motorized and nonmotorized
  • Remove malfunctioning ground support equipment from service and ensure GSE is not returned to service until malfunction has been properly diagnosed and repaired
  • Respond to emergency service calls as well as accidents involving ground support equipment
  • Pick up parts and material required for ground support equipment maintenance and repair
  • Own and demonstrate proper use of tools, diagnostic equipment, etc. required for equipment maintenance and repair
  • Complete all maintenance/repair documentation consistent with carrier, station, airport authority, municipal, state, federal and Swissport requirements
  • Comply with all federal, provincial, municipal, airport authority and carrier security requirements
  • Always retain a motor vehicle driver’s license for both air side / non airside in good standing
  • Follow all safety guidelines set out by WCB, EPA, WHMIS, and SP management
  • Always keep GSE shop and its equipment clean and serviceable; report all deficiencies to management
  • Fuel equipment as necessary with full regard for all safety and environmental requirements
  • Liaison with Ramp management, customers and staff in a professional manner when needed
Your profile
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in GSE Maintenance
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to obtain and maintain a YOW D/A license
  • Flexible to work on various shifts if needed (Morning, days, evening, weekends, etc)
  • Have certification of completion in one of the following trades: Heavy duty/Commercial or Automotive mechanic license. Certification must be kept in good standing
  • Good oral and verbal communication skills in English and French
  • Willing to travel when necessary for training or to assist other SP stations with GSE needs as required
  • Must be proficient in diesel engine diagnosis and repair, basic welding, and basic hydraulic experience
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Transport Canada Security Clearance
  • Possess your own tools
