Job summary

Swissport Canada in Mississauga is seeking an experienced Cargo Operations Manager to plan and oversee all cargo service handling activities in line with our procedures and brand values.

The role leads unionized teams, ensures safety, quality, and regulatory compliance, drives SLA attainment, labour relations, and continuous improvement across operations while optimizing profitability and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years experience within the industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Previous experience in a unionized environment and dealing with a union.
  • Strong customer focus with a commitment to operational quality, continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of general office operations, and business support functions.
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule, as required to support operational needs.
  • Highly reliable professional with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and commitment to operational excellence.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and manage all operational activities associated with cargo service handling in line with procedures, policies and brand values.
  • Deliver safe, efficient, and reliable cargo operations meeting customer expectations and objectives.
  • Lead, coach, and support unionized teams to achieve SLA, productivity and performance targets, while fostering positive labour relations.
  • Manage daily workforce planning, staffing assignments, and resource allocation per operational needs and collective agreements.
  • Maintain relationships with union representatives and employees promoting open communication and trust.
  • Ensure compliance with policies, collective agreements, safety regulations and regulatory requirements for employees, equipment, facilities and aircraft operations.
  • Oversee workplace health and safety programs, incident reporting, investigations, and return-to-work programs.
  • Monitor operation performance to drive profitability and productivity improvements.
  • Monitor and analyze P&L statements for variances and take appropriate actions.
  • Track quality standards of cargo operations and drive continuous improvements in workflows and services.
  • Ensure ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 compliance while supporting audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate operational, training and compliance records.
  • Address customer concerns and operational challenges.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, safety, respect, continuous improvement, and employee development through leadership and coaching.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, customers, airport authorities, union partners and business partners.

Job Responsibilities
  • Accountable for the delivery of safe, efficient, and reliable cargo operations while meeting customer expectations, operational objectives, and collective agreement requirements.
  • Lead, coach, and support unionized teams to achieve Service Level Agreements (SLA), productivity targets, and operational performance goals while fostering a positive labour relations environment.
  • Manage daily workforce planning, staffing assignments, and resource allocation in accordance with operational needs and collective agreement provisions.
  • Maintain effective relationships with union representatives and employees by promoting open communication, trust, and constructive labour relations.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, collective agreements, safety regulations, and regulatory requirements related to employees, equipment, facilities, and aircraft operations.
  • Oversee workplace health and safety programs, incident reporting, investigations, modified work/return-to-work programs, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee, monitor, and evaluate the operation's performance to ensure increased profitability and productivity.
  • Monitor and analyze the Profit and Loss (P&L) statements for any variances and take appropriate action
  • Monitor and track quality standards of the Cargo operation and ensure continuous improvements in workflows and services to maintain competitiveness.
  • Ensure operational processes comply with ISO 9001, 45001, and 14001 standards while supporting audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate operational, training, and compliance records.
