Job summary

Ed Seguin & Sons Trucking and Paving seeks an experienced Accounting Supervisor to oversee day-to-day accounting while remaining hands-on with bookkeeping, project accounting, payroll support and office administration.

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll be the primary internal resource for accounting matters, helping ensure accurate records, reliable reporting and timely completion of work. This is a stable, full-time role with a family-owned company that values leadership and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of accounting or bookkeeping experience, including month-end close.
• Diploma in accounting or related field; bookkeeping certification is an asset.
• Construction or project accounting experience and job costing knowledge preferred.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software and Excel.
• Ability to review accounting work, coordinate deadlines and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong attention to detail and discretion with confidential information.
• Team-oriented with willingness to handle accounting and office responsibilities.
• Experience coordinating accounting processes or guiding other employees is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
• Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries and reconcile accounts.
• Coordinate month-end close and assist with financial reporting.
• Support job costing, progress billing, holdbacks and project close-outs.
• Assist Payroll Administrator with reconciliations and year-end summaries.
• Maintain accounting procedures, internal controls and process improvements.
• Coordinate permits, licensing, regulatory reporting (MTO, CVOR, MNR, TOARC).
• Coordinate weigh-scale administration, operational reporting and office support.

Ed Seguin & Sons (ESS) is a family-owned civil construction, surface mining and aggregate company serving Northeastern Ontario since 1967. We’re growing and looking for an experienced Accounting Supervisor to join our team.

The Role

Reporting to the General Manager, you’ll oversee day-to-day accounting processes while remaining hands-on with bookkeeping, project accounting, payroll support and office administration. You’ll be the primary internal resource for accounting matters, helping ensure accurate records, reliable reporting and timely completion of work.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Oversee accounts payable and receivable, reviewing transactions, coding and supporting documentation for accuracy.
• Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries and reconcile bank, credit card and vendor accounts.
• Coordinate month-end close, financial reporting and year-end support for our external accountants.
• Support job costing, progress billing, holdbacks, subcontractor documentation and project financial close-outs.
• Support the Payroll Administrator with reconciliations, discrepancy resolution and year-end summaries.
• Maintain accounting procedures and internal controls, guide employees and identify opportunities to improve processes.
• Manage company permits, licences, qualifications and regulatory reporting, including MTO, CVOR, MNR and TOARC requirements.
• Coordinate weigh-scale administration and training, operational reporting and related recordkeeping.
• Coordinate IT providers, cleaning services, office supplies and general office support.

What We’re Looking For

• At least five years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience, including month-end close, reconciliations and general ledger work.
• A diploma in accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bookkeeping certification is an asset.
• Construction or project accounting experience and knowledge of job costing are preferred.
• Proficiency with QuickBooks or similar accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
• The ability to review accounting work, coordinate deadlines and resolve discrepancies.
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment and discretion when handling confidential financial and employee information.
• A practical, team-oriented approach and willingness to handle both accounting and office responsibilities.
• Experience coordinating accounting processes or guiding other employees is an asset.
