Job summary

Ed Seguin & Sons is seeking a Skilled Labourer / Pipe Layer for civil infrastructure projects in North Bay, Sudbury and surrounding areas. You will install water, sanitary sewer and storm piping, read drawings, and work with a crew to maintain safety and quality on site.

The role involves outdoor work, exposure to weather, and approximately 50 hours per week during the construction season, with travel to job sites as required.

Qualifications

• 2+ years civil construction experience preferred.
• Previous pipe laying or water/sewer construction is a strong asset.
• Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades.
• Experience around excavations and heavy equipment.
• Physically capable of outdoor construction work.
• Willingness to travel to Northeastern Ontario sites.

Responsibilities

• Install watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer piping per drawings.
• Install service connections, valves, hydrants and precast structures.
• Assist with trenching, bedding, backfilling and compaction.
• Safely operate around heavy equipment and assist operators.
• Read and interpret drawings and locate utilities.
• Assess excavation conditions and trench safety.
• Set and verify pipe grades using surveying tools.
• Cut and fit piping for proper alignment and elevation.
• Set up dewatering and temporary bypass systems.
• Use hand and power tools safely; maintain clean work area.
• Identify unsafe conditions and communicate with supervisor.

Position Overview

Ed Seguin & Sons is seeking a Skilled Labourer / Pipe Layer to join our civil construction team.

This is a hands-on field position working primarily on civil infrastructure projects throughout the North Bay, Sudbury and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will work as part of a construction crew installing underground water, sanitary sewer and storm infrastructure.

The position involves physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions and working safely around excavations and heavy equipment. Candidates should be comfortable working approximately 50 hours per week during the construction season.

Key Responsibilities

• Install watermain, sanitary sewer and storm sewer piping in accordance with project drawings and specifications.
• Install service connections, valves, hydrants, fittings, maintenance holes, catch basins and other precast structures.
• Assist with excavation, pipe bedding, backfilling and compaction.
• Safely work around heavy equipment and assist operators with excavation and backfilling around existing utilities.
• Read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and utility locate information.
• Safely locate and expose existing underground infrastructure.
• Assist in assessing excavation conditions, trench safety and pipe bedding requirements.
• Set and verify pipe grades and alignment using pipe lasers, grade rods, levels and other surveying tools.
• Measure, cut, fit and configure piping to achieve proper alignment and elevations.
• Set up, operate and monitor dewatering and temporary bypass systems.
• Use hand tools, power tools and small equipment safely and effectively.
• Perform general construction labour duties as required to support the crew.
• Identify unsafe conditions and communicate concerns to the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean, organized and safe work area.
• Follow company safety policies, project requirements and applicable regulations.

Requirements / Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of civil construction experience preferred, particularly in underground infrastructure.
• Previous pipe laying or water/sewer construction experience is considered a strong asset.
• Ability to read construction drawings and understand grades and elevations is an asset.
• Experience working around excavations and heavy equipment.
• Physically capable of performing demanding outdoor construction work.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to contribute wherever required.
• Safety-conscious and attentive to detail.
• Able to work effectively as part of a crew.
• Reliable, organized and willing to learn.
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transportation.
• Willingness to work approximately 50 hours per week and travel to jobsites throughout Northeastern Ontario as required.
