Job summary

ProAmpac, a global leader in flexible packaging, is seeking a Senior Plant Accountant for the Whitby, Ontario facility. You will lead a small team, oversee daily accounting activities, and drive accurate month-end close and financial reporting for the plant.

You will partner with plant leadership on cost control, inventory accuracy, and financial performance while ensuring strong internal controls and compliance. The role offers growth opportunities within a manufacturing environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA designation or progression preferred.
• 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
• Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is required.
• Prior supervisory or people leadership experience is required.
• Experience managing, mentoring, or developing direct reports.
• Strong understanding of financial statement preparation and month-end close processes.
• Experience with transactional accounting and day-to-day accounting operations.
• Familiarity with inventory accounting and manufacturing financial processes.
• Knowledge of ERP systems and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to provide clear direction across teams.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2 direct reports while fostering a collaborative and accountable work environment.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations for the Whitby plant, including transactional accounting activities and financial reporting.
• Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial results.
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting schedules.
• Analyze plant financial results and identify trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Partner with plant leadership to review operating results and provide financial insights on key business issues such as material usage, inventory, and plant performance.
• Oversee inventory-related accounting activities, including reconciliations, valuation support, and inventory accuracy reviews.
• Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end reporting packages to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies.
• Assist with internal and external audit requests and maintain strong internal controls.
• Serve as the primary day-to-day finance resource for the plant accounting team, providing direction and leadership.

Location Requirement: This position is based at our Whitby, Ontario facility and requires on-site presence 5 days per week.
