The Plant Accountant is responsible for the organization’s accounting and financial reporting activities, ensuring accurate records, timely month-end close, and strong financial controls. This hands-on role works under the direction of the Controller and works closely with management to provide budgets, cost analysis, and financial insights that support efficient manufacturing operations and informed strategic decision-making to meet financial objectives.
Job Duties
- Responsible for accounting functions such as Accounts Receivable and Bank reconciliations and overseeing Accounts Payable and Payroll
- Prepare and process monthly and year end journal entries, maintaining general ledger accuracy and complete reconciliations
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
- Maintain and reconcile the company’s fixed asset register, ensuring accurate tracking, capitalization, depreciation, and disposal of plant assets.
- Support audits, providing required documentation as required
- Monitor cash flow and working capital
- Manage banking relationships and financing arrangements
Budgeting & Forecasting
- Prepare annual budgets, financial forecasts, and projections
- Analyze variances between the actual results and the budgets and forecasts
- Provide financial insights to support operational decisions
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and accounting standards
- Coordinate external preparations of year-end financial statements and corporate tax return
- Ensure accurate HST and corporate filings
Manufacturing and Quoting Support
- Provide financial support as part of the team responsible for customer quoting
- Develop product cost models including materials, labor, overhead, and manufacturing costs
- Ensure proper valuation of raw materials, WIP (work-in-progress), and finished goods
- Provide financial support to manufacturing for inventory cycle counts, yearend physical inventory and reconciliations
- Provide financial support as part of the team responsible for company KPIs and risk management
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, CPA preferred
- 3-5 years of experience with Cost and Finance
- 3-5 years of recent experience as a plant accountant
- Prior electrical manufacturing experience is an asset.
- Required proof of Canadian Citizenship or permanent residency.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain the Controlled Goods Clearance in accordance with DAVWIRE’s Security Plan.
Skills & Experience
- Understands manufacturing processes and can integrate finance and operations.
- Demonstrated ability to manage financial systems, ERP platforms, and related business applications including Microsoft Excel.Strong understanding of cost accounting
- Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems.
- Well-developed financial analysis capabilities.
