Job summary

Pure Metal Galvanizing ULC in Ontario seeks an Accountant to support financial operations and reporting for its facilities. You will manage month-end close, GL reconciliations, inventory costing, and assist with budgeting and forecasting.

You will supervise AR/AP, prepare government remittances (HST, WSIB), maintain fixed assets, and analyze operations to improve efficiency. Strong Excel and ERP experience are required, along with the ability to work with plant and corporate teams.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across plant and corporate teams.

A Brief Summary of This Position:

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the financial operations and reporting functions for Pure Metal Galvanizing’s Ontario facilities. Reporting to the Controller and working closely with plant management and corporate finance teams, the Accountant maintains accurate financial records, drives cost and inventory accounting processes, and supports operational decision-making in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Key responsibilities include executing month-end closing activities, managing general ledger account reconciliations, preparing government remittances (HST, WSIB), and analyzing operational data to support continuous improvement and financial efficiency across the plant network.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform full-cycle month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities, including posting journal entries and general ledger maintenance.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts, investigate financial variances, and report insights to key stakeholders.
  • Prepare accurate monthly financial reports, management summaries, and supporting schedules.
  • Support inventory accounting, including cycle counts, valuation analysis, and annual physical inventory reconciliations.
  • Supervise Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions, ensuring accuracy and oversight, while providing hands-on coverage for AR duties during team absences.
  • Monitor accounts receivable, customer invoicing, and collections activities; review accounts payable transactions and assist with vendor payment processing.
  • Prepare, reconcile, and ensure timely filing of government returns and remittances, including HST and WSIB.
  • Maintain fixed asset ledgers, capital expenditure tracking, and depreciation schedules.
  • Assist plant leadership and finance teams with annual budgeting, monthly forecasting, and operational cost analysis.
  • Provide backup support for payroll processing and payroll-related reconciliations.
  • Serve as primary backup for HR Generalist’s duties in their absence.
  • Ensure full compliance with company policies, accounting controls, and internal/external audit requirements.
  • Analyze operational and manufacturing data to identify efficiency gains, support process automation, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • This position, through the subordinate organization, is responsible for making sure timely and thorough preparation of financial records and reports for use by management and operating personnel at all levels are completed based on the requirements set by Corporate and the Controller. These records must comply with generally accepted accounting principles (US GAAP), governmental regulations, taxing authorities and the policies and procedures of the company.
  • Manage union dues processing, reconciliations, and timely remittance payments.
  • Prepare and submit required monthly Ministry of the Environment (MOE) compliance reporting for the company.
  • Perform any other accounting and operational duties as assigned or required by the company.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

  • Post-secondary education (Degree or Diploma) in Accounting, Finance, or Business, combined with a minimum of 5 years of full-cycle accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statement preparation, and internal controls.
  • Practical experience preparing and filing Canadian government remittances (HST, WSIB).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and hands-on experience using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and root-cause problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet tight monthly reporting deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively across plant and corporate teams.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration with emphasis on Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial, or multi-site operational environments.
  • Strong background in inventory and cost accounting.
  • Experience with corporate reporting standards for U.S.-based parent companies.
  • Strong working knowledge or QAD, OneStream, IFS, VCC Max, Visual Shop, Bloomberg and Blackline Software.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.

In addition to an office setting, the employee also spends time on the production floor as well as outside during all seasons of the year and in the manufacturing areas. The employee is expected to wear all necessary PPE (Personal Protective Equipment), as required. This position is exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heart and cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with manufacturing areas, fire, smoke, unstable debris, confined spaces, and working in high areas.
