Brainsquare is seeking a Senior Test Automation Engineer to shape and execute the testing approach for a complex digital platform in a public sector environment. You will design and automate tests, investigate issues and help the team improve quality throughout delivery.

The role requires hands-on expertise in test automation, API testing, and end-to-end testing across cloud-based solutions and microservices, with CI/CD integration.

Your mission

As a Senior Test Automation Engineer, you will help shape and execute the testing approach for a complex digital platform in a public sector environment. You will work with engineers, analysts and business stakeholders to make sure business logic, data flows and integrations work reliably across the platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You will design and automate tests, investigate issues and help the team improve quality throughout delivery.

Your main tasks

• Turn the test strategy into a practical test plan and automated test suites.

• Test business logic, data integrity and end-to-end user workflows across APIs and microservices.

• Validate API contracts and integrations, including interactions with external systems.

• Build and maintain automated API and UI tests, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.

• Perform or support performance, scalability and security testing.

• Use monitoring and logging to investigate issues and improve test coverage.

• Contribute your testing expertise in an agile team and share findings with technical and business stakeholders.

What we are looking for in you

• Substantial hands-on experience as a senior test engineer in complex application environments. You can define an approach and implement it yourself.

• Strong experience with test automation, API testing and end-to-end testing.

• Experience testing cloud-based solutions, microservices and integrations.

• Working knowledge of CI/CD, version control and automated quality checks.

• Experience with several relevant tools or approaches, such as Bruno, Cypress, JUnit, Cucumber, JMeter, Gatling, Grafana or Azure DevOps. We do not expect you to have used every tool on this list.

• The ability to work closely with developers and business stakeholders, challenge assumptions and explain your findings clearly.

• A completed short or long-cycle higher education degree in IT, as required for this assignment.

• Very good English and a good working knowledge of Dutch or French.

• Availability to work on site in Brussels around three days per week, alongside remote work.

Experience with Azure, contract testing, service virtualisation or test-driven development would be particularly relevant.
