Job summary

Elia Group is seeking a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to be the technical reference for the EL.AI product, overseeing lifecycle from build to deployment and monitoring. You will collaborate with the AI Architect and Product Owner to drive feasibility, patterns and quality for production-grade AI capabilities.

The role emphasizes hands-on execution, engineering excellence, and close alignment with IT and data stakeholders, with responsibilities spanning governance, architecture, and platform

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, or related field.
• Minimum of 10 years in AI, cloud, or data engineering with 5+ years in production AI/ML.
• Experience designing and operating platforms used across teams.
• Proven technical leadership in multidisciplinary environments.
• English fluency; Dutch/French/German is a plus.
• Strong ML engineering expertise including end-to-end lifecycle management.

Responsibilities

• Shape the EL.AI tech roadmap by evaluating AI capabilities and translating to scalable platform features.
• Drive design, development, and evolution of the EL.AI platform with focus on scalability and reliability.
• Develop reusable frameworks, templates, pipelines and reference implementations.
• Translate architecture principles into concrete patterns and refine through feedback.
• Contribute to AI governance with standards, guidelines and best practices.
• Ensure integration of the platform within the Group's AI, data and IT landscape.
• Conduct evaluations, prototypes and PoCs to assess new tech and reduce risk.
• Reduce technical debt and promote engineering excellence across the team.
• Serve as a technical reference, promoting MLOps, CI/CD, testing and observability.
• Support product development and platform adoption with feasibility analyses and onboarding.
